Hmm... much as I like purple, I think dark blue (or maybe even plain black) would look better.

Dark blue works quite well:

<nods> Yep, it's better than purple (though I don't like solid). Anyway, are we agreed that the final choice of which design/colours should be Gimi's? <chortles>

I like the way this is going. Still not too sure about the crown though...
Edited ro add:- actually, it's growing on me quite quickly :)

Somehow this one reminds me of the Statue of Liberty.

The one on the right - but with a slightly smaller crown?

Nice, Gimi :)
We should be careful that (even on a white ship) these are going to look very dark in space. The blue one (which I prefer as well) could would probably look black. :(

Sorry - I seem to have grown some extra points on the star ... here's a revised version, with Gimi's black border:

Image

Edited to add: it's Gimi's choice, but I've tried to make the crown more stylised, and also not explicitly Christian (all the European heraldic crowns tend to have crosses on the top).

Some more suggestions. I like the Yellow border and it would make it more visible and contrast the blue.

For me, this is preferable. If I was to stylise it more (not worth it at small scales), the crown would be smaller still, and the inner field would be a starfield.

Nooooo! It's not my choice.
Agree, I would want no cross on the crown. Finding one is hard though.
I think the crown you are using looks a bit simple. Would want a bit more complex. Maybe your crown needs the black borders?

Fine detail will pretty much vanish at all but extreme close range - especially if the decals get scuffed up at all. I think it works better as a more stylised crown, myself: make it too heraldic and it's maybe treading on the Feudal Houses a bit. (And to be honest, if you want a more elaborate crown, you'll need a more elaborate artist ... there's a reason I favour simple designs. :) If you find an image of crown you'd rather use, I can drop it in, but I wouldn't be able to make a vector graphic out of it - although that's not necessary for a decal, I know.)

If the ships are white, then a yellow border won't show up very well (and in heraldry, putting a metal on a metal is a no-no, unless you're a Bourbon :)). I've given it a thin blue border, which hopefully avoids the previous "BLAMMO!" style:
