I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills

Maybe ... I could write "KERPOW!" across the middle, which would clear up any confusion ...Smivs wrote:Is it just me, or do those 'nested' stars look a bit too much like cartoon explosions?
Cody's interwoven star might be a better option.
Re: Her Imperial Majesty's Space Navy
@Smivs:
I have your hi res version. I like the design with the wings and crown. I think the anchors could be substituted with the 8-pinted star . Also, I think it needs probably more detail. It could be that it just needs some of the parts filled in, but it does look a bit confusing at the first glance. As for the nested stars, I thought of an expanding star when I saw it, but they do look a little cartoon like.
@Disembodied:
Yep, something like that, but my preference would be to rotate the star so the crown comes a bit closer. I also prefer the more traditional "European" type closed crown. (If you google imperial crown you will see what I mean). Problem is finding one that is simple and still looks nice.
@All:
I'm not going to decide this. Everybody's opinion is valid. Brainstorming time I think, and there must be someone here with a drawing talent to finnish this???

Nice. I actually like that solution but:Cody wrote:Interwoven with crown:
Ok, I'm now going to show what kind of nerdy stickler I am.
In European Heraldry rules you are not allowed to put anything above the crown.
Want to see if we can find something as good, following those rules.

I think BLAM! is the usual term for this..Disembodied wrote:Maybe ... I could write "KERPOW!" across the middle, which would clear up any confusion ...
Agreed.. too cartoonish..
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

<grins> A matter of interpretation, jefe - the crown is at the centre of the eight, where it should be.Gimi wrote:In European Heraldry rules you are not allowed to put anything above the crown.

[light bulb ignites above head in Norway]Good interpretation, like it. As for its colour - Imperial Purple or Royal Blue?Gimi wrote:I think we are getting somewhere.

Re: Her Imperial Majesty's Space Navy
The star is nice, but looks a bit too 'spiritual' to me - more like a religious or pagan symbol. A Navy star does need to be a bit more businesslike to my mind. Would a crown centred in a solid star look better?
In other news, I've been fiddling with white textures for the last few hours. Well OK the first hour was wasted while I got frustrated because nothing seemed to be working......because I forgot I had a new install and hadn't set 'always flush cache' yet
Anyway, a natural white look does seem to be a challenge, but I am making progress, so watch this space.

The interwoven eight-pointed star does have Celtic roots, I believe - but I've always liked it.Smivs wrote:The star is nice, but looks a bit too 'spiritual' to me - more like a religious or pagan symbol.

Star-and-imperial crown:
Edit: add coloured version:
And Smivs' suggestion of solid star and centred crown, which I think works quite well. It also keeps the emblem square, which should make it easier to use as a decal:
