Give the man a coconut! Entirely correct, sir - over to you!
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

Let's have another Five Things question....

Okay, let's have five things that are in fives, in any of the usual sources; books, comics, films, etc.

Only one from any one source, author, etc. so that e.g. if Marvel had a superhero group called the Fantastic Five you could use it but nobody could then use anything else from the Marvel universe, whether it be films, comics, spin-off lego sets, etc. etc.

Bonus points for obscurity and weirdness!

There's The Five Gold Bands, by Jack Vance (1950). Each golden band contains a clue to one-fifth of the secret of interstellar travel.

Alas, there was no Famous Five in Space, but I found Five Against Venus by Philip Latham - any good?

OK, Five Gold Bands and Five Against Venus certainly qualify - there are actually 6 characters in the latter, but one is killed before the last one appears, so there are only five at any one time. Three to go!

There are the five elements in The Fifth Element – Earth, Air, Fire, Water, and Milla Jovovich.

OR i could go with
Arthur Dent: I always said there was something fundamentally wrong with the universe.

There's the intergalactic civilisation of the Five Galaxies, from David Brin's Uplift series.

All good, and Disembodied inherits the poisoned chalice.

REALLY surprised that nobody mentioned the five Babylon Stations!

OK then, another group of five: five named journalists from science fiction, please! No more than one per universe. And since they're far too common, no superheroes or other comic-book derived characters are allowed, so no Clark Kent, no Peter Parker, etc.

Here are two old sci-fi-ish reporters: Edward D. Malone from Conan Doyle's The Lost World and
Gideon Spilett from Jules Verne's The Mysterious Island.

Damn! Beat me to it.

Malone appears in all the Professor Challenger tales (The Poison Belt having already appeared in this thread).

I'll go with the journalist that appeared in all the initial Mass Effect trilogy episodes: Khalisah Bint Sinan al-Jilani.
