The model looks aggressively like an oversized fighter, boasting not its size as much as its might. If there's anything to point out, it'd be the fins on the shoulders.
You know, I think I wouldn't mind changing my Terrapin for one of these beasties!

You know those who, having been mugged and stabbed, fired, dog run over, house burned down, wife eloped with best friend, daughters becoming prostitutes and their countries invaded - still say that "all is well"?

Re: Show and Tell (new ships/ ships in progress)
Tionisla Chronicle reporter Zamaon Enesus once again demonstrates his good nose for good stories and brings to us the first snapshot of a new prototype ship from the coluber shipyard in the Riredi system. Our man accomplished to take the photo while the new vessel was on a test flight.
Eneus got an Interview with the Coluber product development manager, Xelo Fellrad, but Felrad was obviously well prepared by the public relations department and showed great skill in talking much and revealing little. At the verry least Fellrad disclosed that the new type of ship will be named "red racer".
Based on the size (80m x 20m x 55m) and appearance we can guess that the ship is some sort of heavy long range fighter or escort ship. But is it as fast as or even faster then a asp? Does it have better energy banks then a fer-de-lance? Can ist carry as much cargo as a cobra MK1? Truth is, we do not know.

A little ship I have in mind, called the Takina Maru. It's bigger than a Boa Class Cruiser, maybe 130 TC, and pretty fast for its size due to four huge engines. I'm probably going to attempt to put a plasma cannon or two somewhere in the model.

Oooh! Fast and mean-looking!... IMHO, it appears more fitting for a combat role than as a freighter, specially because of all the concave areas - a freighter would want the most internal volume per surface area possible...
For more powerful models, I'd suggest three and six more turrets amidships: one or two on each side of the superstructure, and another one or two more along the keel; these would form a triangle, or a triangular prism, of interlocking fields of fire.
(Sorry for the nautical terms, it just came off like that )
For a fast freighter, I'd definitively recommend adding a turret at the image's top left corner on the second surface after the exhausts, and another symmetrically below. Since a trader would rather run from trouble (and be mostly concerned in covering their asses ), those would be the most obvious positions of choice.RyanHoots wrote:I'm probably going to attempt to put a plasma cannon or two somewhere in the model.

Oops, looks like I got the image from the wrong angle... the sections only look concave, they are actually convex, to allow more cargo to fit. Right on, commander.Cmdr. Maegil wrote:Oooh! The idea behind Takina Maru is to make a fast (.35 LM) ship that can protect its cargo, and do a good job at it. Not something that can be found commonly with escorts, even in an Anarchy it can take care of itself. You may even see it in the hands of a pirate...Cmdr. Re: Show and Tell (new ships/ ships in progress)
I keep hearing about the "iron assed Cobra", well I'm about finished with what will certainly be an iron assed ship, except more in the line of a turtle. The Snapper is big, 160.215 x 60.953 x 178.363 according to the .dat file, and I'll just go with those figures. It hauls up to 140 tons of cargo. Speed is sluggish, at .3LM, but it has fuel injectors, ECM, Escape Pod, and auto docking computer. You may most definitely need that docking computer. It's a bugger to dock manually without crashing. It takes forever to slow down, so when approaching a Station in hyperdrive, it's best to exit hyperspeed well away from the station. You also tend to cruise right past those nasty pirates, when yanked out by mass lock, and are able to jump right back into hyperspace before they even know you went by. I also added heat shields, and fuel scoop, and it definitely CAN do the scoop, and escape destruction. Here are a couple of pics. She's a beauty.

Re: Show and Tell (new ships/ ships in progress)
not sure i'd call .3LM sluggish :-/
Re: Show and Tell (new ships/ ships in progress)
Well, guess I'm use to the likes of the Merlin. It is slower than a Cobra Mk III. It's faster than a Python. However, it's also bigger than a Cobra, and smaller than a Python. I thought I was getting about an even balance.Killer Wolf wrote:not sure i'd call .3LM sluggish :-/
Whoa, I take that back, it's a bit bigger than a Python. Hmmm, I'm going to have to lower that max speed, though it also has a larger power plant than the Python.
Oh my gosh, no wonder I had such a hard time docking it. This thing is bigger than an Anaconda. It WILL dock with a Station, though. I'll have to lower the speed, and up the cargo space. Man, I've created a monster, and didn't even realize it till just now, LOL!!!

I'd suggest a smoothing group for that dome - the facets don't really work...
(other than that - excellent ship design)

Re: Show and Tell (new ships/ ships in progress)
Here's another one I'm working on. It's got a ways to go to completion. I want to mount ball turrets on front, and back of the "turret rails", on each side of the ship, but I know the quats are going to drive me crazy. May be a while just because of those. Whatever, it should be just small enough to fit into a Space Station, so it can be a player ship. I'm going to make a battle cruiser version of it too, with more ball turrets, missile launchers, and a couple of Goliaths, if I can figure out how to mount them. I'm thinking of making it the first in line of a series of Battle ships, a few possibly reaching Behemoth proportions.
The Battleships idea got chucked in favour of making this a player ship. The turrets are mounted, as you can see, and they all are working very well. It's a kick to take on several pirates at once. Target one, launch missile, target another, fire laser along with plasma barrage. It's powerful, but certainly not invincible, as I have found it prudent to turn tail and run at times. It has ten huge power plants, so it generates alot of power. Top speed is 380LM, with 500 max energy level. recharge rate is also high at 5.5. I know those numbers seem high, but believe me, it needs that to make it competitive. It carries about 600 tons of cargo, or passengers. I have made six versions of the same ship, which I'm calling the "Genesis Class" ship. They are all the same, for now, with different paint schemes. They are the Genesis, Exodus, Abraham, Armegaddon, Joshua, and Ruth. Biblical names, all, with no intention of offense. I just thought it would be appropriate for a line of the same class to have names of similar origin. Not ready to release just yet, as I'm working on Flashers, and another thing I won't yet mention.
