But in more splendid news:
Winston was at it this morning. He had set it at 200MB, but there are so many configurations to keep aligned, he chased down the last one.
I just successfully uploaded a 10MB test oxz
Splendid news indeed, with a limit of 200 MB I might add another texture to my next package.
Thanks to Murgh and Winston, this was solved fast.

Murgh: thank you, and Winston, very much.
montana05: I hope you joke about the next texture! For, as I said above, I have just tightened my belt, so to speak!

You're welcome, but it's all Winston. I have no skillz to contribute with in what needed to be done. But of course, the messenger also deserves a pat on the back.

Very noble of you to tighten your belt, but it doesn't mean that all of us need to follow.

I was merely being light-hearted! To be more serious: sometimes, an expansion pack has good reason to be large.

My bad, since I am not a native English-speaker once in a while I confuse some meanings. My apologies. The only reason why some of my packages are pretty large are the textures, most of them included just as eye-candies and not because they are necessary.

Has anybody tried searching for the word "poet" in our wiki?
The results are, quite literally, terrifying!
What on earth were Bell and Braben up to?
I've just added a poetry section here:
https://wiki.alioth.net/index.php/Oolite_Literature
I wonder if rather than playing Oolite or writing oxp's for it, we should really be writing poetry about it?

The only good poet is an edible poet!

Huzzah. Winston wrote that he has implemented the greater format upload.
"Permitted file types: png, gif, jpg, jpeg, webp, oxz, zip, oxp."

Musings
The
Category:Oolite
I suspect that this category has now passed its sell-by date.
Originally it used to act as a clear divider between the
Elite:
Frontier:
Oolite material on our wiki, but that time has long passed. I do think that our wiki serves as one of the major remaining sources for Elite & Frontier, but its primary use will inevitably be for Oolite.
Current
Category:Oolite contents include :
Running Oolite-Fedora Core 5, Running Oolite-Windows etc
Like ship shipdata.plist example
Dealing with Thargoids
Mission One - FAQ
Daemon Class Cruiser
For some of these this is the
only category.
I feel that some of us should go through these pages and reclassify them, and decide on a core of what belongs in this category (maybe just stuff for beginners, or just stuff about the Vanilla game...).
There
is a Category:Help for beginners. But I think that there is nothing for the core vanilla game.
Comments?

Not sure how widely used it will be, obviously not for the download manager, but at least now it's possible to simply archive a naked oxp if it's someone's decision.
It would be preferable to zip an oxp (along with readme). I think many of the old historic oxps, the capnhack.com files and other orphans on various box.com accounts, are worthy candidates for preservation for their wikipages.

While the wiki declares it will accept file uploads up to 2GB in size, my attempts to load a 200MB zip file keep failing with the error "413 Request Entity Too Large". I did manage to load a 123MB file though. I'm trying to load the previous Oolite versions onto the wiki for ease of access.

Suggestion: add
date of version &
platform details (AppleMac
etc) to the wiki page.
For coding reference purposes I doubt that we need all 3 versions, but I'm just a dumb pilot!

Has anybody yet uploaded an
.oxp to the wiki? There was a notice some years ago about how .oxp's just being a folder with stuff inside could not be uploaded to the wiki. I've not been able to find it again - but that would have been for an
older version of the wiki software.
