D:

Don't you ever spew such blasphemies against my baby! 'win our hearts over from the old Cobbie' indeed! You should be ashamed of yourself good sir! Old... pft! She's a classic.

Ahem. I wouldn't mind a few new ships. That being said, they confirmed what? 15 ships? I can tell you right now I won't be flying anything other then a Cobra Mk. III. For me, it isn't an Elite title unless I'm in a Cobra III.

<chuckles> You're talking about modding E: D already? I sometimes wonder about modders, you know.

Tell me about it! Too many dark-side cookies, that's the trouble! I reckon they're laced with a mysterious spice that enables those who indulge to navigate their way through the convoluted, bracket-laden, pathways of the ancient book of code. Of course, the all-consuming code takes-over in the end!

Bah! So many choices.

Do I start with the default Sidewinder? Do I start in Imperial Space with an Eagle as a bounty hunter? Do I start in Federal Space as a trader in a Cobra Mk. III? Or do I start with a Cobra III in Lave with 100 credits....

I think the new pledges was a brilliant idea.

Also.

£946,423

Its getting down to the wire folks. Don't get me wrong, I love Oolite, but a new game by DB is nothing to scoff at. I REALLY hope it succeeds.

It just wouldn't be Elite without the "Cobra Mk III" starting at Lave. :D

I like look of the last one, 4000 credits and any starter ship. With all the talk of multi-player, and the video's of your friend asking for help. Has anybody heard if there is a "Guild" type system in game? Or is that a bit much do you think?

I dunno. :?

I got the impression MP was going to be small 'groups' maybe a few hundred on one server. I can't imagine them doing thousands on at the same time. If its smaller, guilds would be kind of pointless. Need more info. :P

Just watched (well, listened to) an interesting interview of David Braben, by Kate Russell (BBC Click, The Pod Delusion, etc). One of the topics covered is what happens if E:D doesn't make the target on Kickstarter.

On a related note Kate Russell just announced her Elite book, and she can be found in the comments section of the Elite KS

Oh, I completely agree! But I've seen people being turned over to the "shady side" and preferring the Imperial Courier, while others have found that they enjoy some more decent craft, such as Asp Explorer (drool!). I'm sure there will be people preferring even completely new designs if they come available.

But, naturally, the old Cobbie must _always_ be there! :)

Of course one of the joys of Oolite is that you can have multiple Commanders, so you can always stay 'true to the Faith' and fly a Cobby 3 with one Commander, and the others can fly what ever takes your fancy, from a humble Adder up to even the most stupid uber-ship.

Mac version stretch goal at £1.4 million just announced.

I read in last night's update that there is an official stretch goal for the E:D Kickstarter. IF they reach £1.4 million then they will make a Mac version.

Unfortunately, I can't see them even making the £1.25 million goal. Why oh why did they decide to do this at this time of the year, when most people don't have much money due to spending on Christmas? Stupid, stupid, stupid!!

The Asp Explorer was my favourite FE2/FFE ship. With the way those games implemented equipment/hold space, you needed a fairly big ship to fit anything beyond the basic equipment, and any bigger than the Asp and you wouldn't have a main engine powerful enough to dogfight with.

I'll be interested to see if they go for the same model in E:D, or whether they go for a more slot-based model where the big freighters have a lot of space for cargo but no mounting points for a lot of the fancier combat equipment.

I think they will. Just continuing on the linear trend of the last week would get them to 1.15 million, and it wouldn't take much acceleration at the end to push them over the line from there. The "alternative start" pledges seem to be popular enough to keep the £20 slots open for new people. They did really mess up the Kickstarter, but I think they'll just get away with it.
