Sorry DH this is too abstract for a roof billboard and also the pseudo-outlines does not give you the impression of a neon billboard.

Can somebody with better tools (I do not even have Photoshop) and better skills work in the following draft.

Image

My idea is to clear this from the black surround and enhanced the variety of the frames.

1st frame totally black (as it is),
2nd only the lemon will glow,
3rd the lemon and the straw
and the final frame as it is

It will be a simple but totally valid roof billboard

I've had a go but unpicking the fuzzy glows from each other is beyond me, I'm afraid ... Someone fire up the Griffsignal!

I've done a revised version of the boxing robots with a bit more movement in it – again, for the slush pile for you to use as you want:

Ok, I give up.

I'll do the Oodles defender and then I'm done.

Very cool artwork guys!
sorry i haven't posted for a bit, when i get a moment i'll get all these shader ready - D_H that grooving neon figure looks rather cool, i think i prefer the first one without the white wireframes behind it, do you think we should take it and make one of the constores a 'space disco' or something? :D i know, put a glittery mirror ball on the roof, have D_H's figures getting down with their bad-selves (i hope that's a dancing term, i'm a bit out of my depth here with the lingo) on the ad-ring, put multicolour disco lights in the docking bay? and ask one of the scripters to write us a routine that pipes cheesy funk music into the cabin when you fly past? The boxing animation would work too, maybe it could be a whole new sports/entertaiment complex?

That’s the deference between Griff and me. I can only see an invalid roof billboard but Griff can see a new world of possibilities out of it.
It seems that I simply cannot fit here anymore. I am an alien to this tread since I do not have an artistic vein

don't give up on the oxp Ark, you've put a load of work into it and brought a lot of seperate ideas and odd bits and pieces of artwork together to make something really cool for the Ooniverse, so you must have some artistic tendencies and sence of 'what works with what'
the space disco was just a fun idea - an off-shoot to the main oxp, an outlet for artwork that may not fit the con-stores - i wasn't trying to hi-jack the oxp and drive it off into some sort of 70's john travolta fantasy of mine
I guess i watched you-tube clips of the dance scene out of Saturday night fever a bit too closely when i was trying to make the dancing robot animation earlier, it's planted subliminal urges in my brain!

I have a very sharp eye – nothing more
As for the idea it is a very cool one that can be applied into a future constore. But bear in mind the average time for the creation of a new youradhere set is about 6 to 8 months (due to the 50 or 54 ads)

If somebody wants to use/resurrect this feel free - I like your ideas for the "space disco" Griff - the giant mirror ball made me laugh!

When animated - "Cotton-eye Joe" should be played loud in the background - I don't know if line-dancing will still be around in the 32nd Century...

I am preparing the credits txt for the new version of youradher. Actually is the same with the credits.txt taken from Dr. Nil’s site with the addition of the artists that contributed to the creation of the constores.
Lately I do not trust my memory very much (RL was not so nice to me that last weeks – but it is nothing irreversible)
Can the rest of you please take a look in case I have forgotten someone?

Nicely Correlated Ark. Well done.

I think the "?????" for the 1x2 Ad in Mallwart may be for the Level 23 club (which I nicked from Pangloss's original YAH ad - so perhaps a double credit for that?)

I'm on my work machine so I can't confirm this!

Do you want to make note of the Asteroid Ads too - I'm thinking simply for the future where given the loveliness of the shader ads the Asteroid Ads may end up being unique to the Asteroids rather than just recycling ads already seen in YAH.

One thing I'm not sure of is where are we in terms of a complete set of everything for set F (black Star) and Set G (Oodles?) - will Set F need a matching (black Star) sidewinder livery for example. For sure, if we want to stay unique for each station then a Set G will need a new 1x1 as Cocktail Bar is being used in Set F.

BTW, I did have a look at redoing the Cocktail glass and as others have pointed out - it's not easy (possible?) because of the way the original "glow" is included in the greyscale (non-"lit") version of the frame.

Griff, if he was thinking ahead may have the original without the fake blurring but I suspect he may have started (like I usually do) with the coloured lit version and then made the unlit greyscale version from that. Only Griff can know...

later,

John

PS - Looking at my new skins for the Magma Racing Team I am somewhat ashamed of my constore defender skins - but they're consistant with the rest so have the same feel - although it could be argued that each constore owner would try to make his ships look the best - so there could be differences - but equally - defending the stores could be done by a 3rd party who just liveries up a standard ship with a minimum basic paint scheme....

The only backstory for YAH is in Doc's very first posting - how Ad-X using these giant Tetra-Screens is offering an outlet for all these big Corp's to sell the unsuspecting trader their wares...

Possible backstory for the Convenience Stores:

The various member worlds of the influential Corporate State voting bloc, predominantly wealthy and with high levels of technology, have always bridled at Co-op restrictions on the classes and quantities of commodities exchanged at main system stations, demanding "Free Trade" instead. Other planets in the Co-operative, fearful that their own domestic economies would be overwhelmed by an arrangement that inherently favoured the rich and powerful, have always resisted such demands. Recently, a compromise was reached: the Co-operative allowed a number of independent trading posts to be set up in systems with sufficiently high levels of economic and political cohesion. The Convenience Stores were born: franchise stations, based near the Witchpoint, offering goods and services to passing ships. Unchecked by Co-op trade regulations, controlled commodities – slaves, narcotics and firearms – are offered freely, and legally, for sale.

Naturally, with the Corporate bloc providing most of the starting capital, Convenience Stores are hotbeds of commercial enterprise. They are encrusted with advertising, and even the stations' defence craft – cheap ex-Navy Sidewinders – are plastered with logos and corporate sponsorship. Within a Convenience Store, commerce moves at a rapid pace, and prices of even the most basic goods can fluctuate wildly. Some merchants, for commercial or ideological reasons, have abandoned the main system stations altogether; but cannier Commanders, balancing the reliable price index of the Co-operative against speculative capitalist bubble-blowing, can often exploit the feverish atmosphere of a Convenience Store to obtain impressive profits on relatively small quantities of goods.

Well spotted DH. I also totally agree with you that from now on asteroid billboards must have unique ads

I do not think that this is mandatory. It is the same company (star)

Not exactly. I have already include your naked dancer 1x1 ad. What???? a naked dancer??? :D This station (Trade outpost) was in the porno promo video of oolite. Now look what you did. shame on you DH  .
But we still need an asteroid billboard png for set G. I am thinking that if we have 4 more ads for set G it will be possible to start the “unique ads for asteroid billboards” from set G. But I will leave that decision to the doc.

BTW, I did have a look at redoing the Cocktail glass and as others have pointed out - it's not easy (possible?) because of the way the original "glow" is included in the greyscale (non-"lit") version of the frame.
Then we still need a roof billboard. Is it possible for you to make a Griffsignal (you know like the batman signal in the movies) .I believe that we are going to need it.

Looking at my new skins for the Magma Racing Team I am somewhat ashamed of my constore defender skins
If you say so .. then “shame on you” again

@Disembodied:That is an impressive piece of writing Disembodied. Well done. What about a more general background story for youradhere. For example why terrascreens only exists in corporate states, confederacies and democracies, why asteroid billboards exist only in corporate states. Why communists systems accept the existence of a constore in their space if they have an above 4 billion population ect

How's this?

It all started with the Budget Crisis of 3119, when the Co-operative finally realised the scale of the overspend on the project to upgrade the old Faraway wormhole navigation system to the new Witchspace Beacon network. Gross financial mismanagement is hardly new to the Co-operative, or even (sadly) uncommon, but the Faraway fiasco was of an entirely different order of magnitude. This hole wasn't going to be filled with some budgetary offset and a bit of creative accountancy; somehow, the Witchspace Beacon network would have to start generating income.

The idea of charging a levy on all ships using Witchspace was briefly considered, then discarded as a) unpopular and, sadly, b) impossible. Fortunately, a solution was found: the Ad-X Corporation was prepared to pay handsomely for the right to station giant TeraScreen advertisements at the Witchpoint (and, in some larger systems, outside the main station itself).

It seemed like the problem had been solved. Unfortunately, the only systems prepared to accept unrestricted TeraScreen advertising were the Corporate States, the Democracies and the Confederacies. Dictatorships wanted to use the screens for their own purposes (usually, giant pictures of one Glorious Leader or another); the Communist worlds would have nothing but propaganda (and, indeed, have been working on a system of propaganda screens of their own); and the Multi-Government, Feudal and Anarchy worlds wanted a slice of the pie for themselves – one far bigger than their downmarket demographic warranted.

In desperation, the Co-operative cast around for other possible revenue streams. The various member worlds of the wealthy Corporate State voting bloc had always bridled at Co-op restrictions on the classes and quantities of commodities exchanged at main system stations, demanding "Free Trade" instead. Other planets in the Co-operative, fearful that their own domestic economies would be overwhelmed by an arrangement that inherently favoured the rich and powerful, had always resisted such demands. But faced with the possible bankruptcy of the entire stellar trading network, a compromise was reached: in return for a regular rent on the local Witchpoint volume, the Co-operative would allow a number of independent trading posts to be set up in systems with sufficiently high levels of economic, cultural and political cohesion – or, as some cynics have suggested, those systems with a big enough population to make the venture worthwhile.

Thus the Convenience Stores were born: franchise stations, based near the Witchpoint, offering goods and services to passing ships. Exempt from Co-op trade regulations, the Convenience Stores set about making money from every possible source. They are encrusted with advertising, and even the stations' defence craft – cheap ex-Navy Sidewinders – are plastered with logos and corporate sponsorship. Most controversially, controlled commodities – slaves, narcotics and firearms – are offered freely, and legally, for sale.
