13:34:11.794 [shipData.load.shipyard.unknown]: ----- WARNING: the shipyard.plist entry "Spiv-Player" does not have a corresponding shipdata.plist entry, ignoring.
It refers to the player variant of the Spiv ship, found in the AAACrooks oxp. In line 109 of the shipdata.plist, it names "Spiv2.dat" as the model. It should actually be "spiv2.dat".

I seem to remember trying this oxp out ages ago, and then uninstalling it. I think that the exhausts weren't actually connected to some of the ships; they were translated a ship's width or so to the side. Needless to say, it looked very odd.

Great, almost there. The only error showing now is regarding OXPConfig, which isn't working because OxpConfig needs Cabal_Common_Library.oxp installed.
It's likely you won't need OXPConfig anyway unless you're planning on de-bugging OXPs (normally used by OXP authors/developers), so I'd also remove that at least for now.
Everything else should be OK.
OXPConfig gives users the chance to configure OXPs - it's no debugging tool (unless OXPs are using it this way). The 'error' is a message from OXPConfig that the requirements were not fullfilled (Cabal_Common_Library is not installed).

Anyway - remove it, because you don't need it. None of the listed OXPs are using OXPConfigs mechanism and it will only burn resources.

Here's my latest Log. I noticed that the controls, or at least the reactions to the controls, were kind of jerky on the screen, and in the middle of a dogfight it crashed my system again. Weird.

But the Cabal_Common_Library IS installed. At least it's in the AddOns folder, so I'm not sure why the game isn't detecting it.

I read what you said about that oxp and removed it from AddOns as you proposed, before the log mentioned above was made. I feel like we are on a roll here. It's almost as fun as playing the game, LOL!!!

The Cabal Commons is being detected I can see it in the list of OXPs/Scripts -
Cabal_Common_Comms 1.2
Cabal_Common_Functions 1.2
Cabal_Common_Keyboard 1.2
I notice you have BlOomberg installed but not Snoopers - which it requires to work.

Yes, CCL is installed now - though it is a pretty outdated version. The log you've posted before is another thing and CCL wasn't there, hence OXPConfig was complaining .-)

OK, here's another log, this time following the departure from, and arrival at, two Space Stations, with some Fugitive blasting in between. No crashes. I'm reinstalling BlOomberg, but I put the Snoopers oxp in first. I'll see what happens. :)

Update. I tried playing with BlOomberg, and Snoopers added in, and my system went down. I took BlOomberg out, and tried again with the Snoopers still their, but the action was jerky on the screen, slow responses to my commands, so now I've removed Snoopers as well. Still Trying. :)

Best bet is that it's the Werewolf itself. Maybe shader related or the HUD switching. You can try to disable the script that spawns 5 of them on every launch and try disabling the HUD switch.

btw: I don't think that Snoopers causes this behaviour. Snoopers doen't do anything inflight unless it is called by other OXPs and none of the listed OXPs is using it.

Edit: I'll go and install the Werewolf to see what happens.

Edit2: Yep. After installing the Werewolf I have the same jerky behaviour. Will dig a bit tonight.

The script that creates 5 wolves at launch is a test script, I believe, and can be safely deleted. 'Tis the script.js in the Config file.

Now that IS strange, because when I removed Snoopers, the game ran perfectly, even though the log is still showing errors. I'm learning how to respond to those errors now, though.

Ok, I took that out of the werewolf.oxp file. We'll see what happens. Like I said, this is nearly as fun as playing the game. I am looking into learning how to do some of this. I would love to introduce an oxp of a Kzin ship, out of Larry Niven's Known Space series. I think they would be cool in this game, and could be a menace to both the Oolite Empire, AND the Thargoids. Imagine jumping into a system to find a group of Thargoids fighting Kzin Battle Cruisers. The possibilities are fun to think of. But I digress. For now I'm happy to work on getting the game completely installed correctly. :)

I have another update, though I don't blame you guys if you are tiring of this. This Log is giving me error warnings about Fuel Collectors, which I do have installed in the AddOns folder. I just don't understand what the problem is. Do they have anything to do with the Fuel Stations, two of which I have used now with no problems? I kind of like those fuel stations.

I seem to be talking to myself now. So what else is new. La La La La La!!!!!!

Ahem, what I meant to say was is there an answer to this line in the very last Log:
23:11:19.545 [files.notFound]: ----- WARNING: Could not find texture file "Gecko_DS.png".

Is there a texture file "Gecko_DS.ping?

I couldn't locate it either. I'm not sure it's a big deal, but it's a warning. Also, I couldn't locate the position of the subject of this warning:
23:11:16.054 [shipData.load.error]: ***** ERROR: the shipdata.plist entry "frame_itsatrap" specifies non-existent model "Wreck1.dat".

If I am talking to myself, then what do I have to say about these warnings........NUTS! 8)

Okay, let's have a look at some of the things that you have installed.

Aquatics and Assassins are both mission oxps, in galaxies 3 and 7 respectively. There isn't much point in adding these unless you've reached the point where you're ready to start the mission. (Afterwards, it is fine to keep them in, as they add extra ships, but you only see them during/after the mission, so having the oxp running before makes no sense.)

You have a number of different sound oxps installed: BGS-A (which contains everything that BGS has to offer - background images, sounds and music), e5amigasoundpack.oxp, and custsounds.oxp. While multiple shipsets often have the ability to "play nice" with each other, I suspect that multiple soundsets will overwrite each other when they try to customise the same sound, with the one you hear being the last one loaded. My suggestion would be to choose one of these, rather than have all of them.

External views is, I believe, redundant. It's functionality was incorporated into the core game long ago, and so the oxp is unnecessary.

Fuel collectors have nothing to do with Fuel stations; they are completely separate oxps. The log errors you get are because Fuel collector has not been updated in quite a while, and uses deprecated javascript. All that is needed is to change the outdated methods/functions to the current standard, although as you are new to Oolite and presumably scripting this is possibly beyond you for now. A couple of board members have done this in their personal copies, but for licensing reasons can't distribute the oxp. If you want to use it and can't figure it out yourself, I'd suggest searching through the boards to find out who (I can't remember off hand) and drop them a PM; I'm sure they'll be glad to help.

Now for the other log errors!

Code: Select all

20:35:18.422 [files.notFound]: ----- WARNING: Could not find texture file "Gecko_DS.png".
This is in the DeepspaceShip.oxp. Rename the texture file "gecko_DS.png" to "Gecko_DS.png".

Code: Select all

20:46:43.274 [ai.load.failed.unknownAI]: Can't switch AI for <ShipEntity 0x7fb4c11e3e40>{"Far Star"} to "piratetAI.plist" - could not load file.
Okay, I don't have this oxp, but just looking at the error message I'm fairly certain that you need to search the shipdata.plist in farstar.oxp for "piratetAI.plist" and change it to "pirateAI.plist". Looks like a simple uncorrected typo.

Code: Select all

20:34:51.506 [shipData.load.begin]: Loading ship data.
20:34:51.930 [shipData.load.error]: ***** ERROR: the shipdata.plist entry "frame_itsatrap" specifies non-existent model "Wreck1.dat".
Again, I don't have this oxp, but judging from the Star Wars reference I'm guessing that it comes from within the a-wing.oxp. The way I tend to go about trying to fix things like this is to check for case sensitive errors (Linux being case sensitive and all!) Meaning that the model specified in the shipdata.plist is "Wreck1.dat" and the actual file is "wreck1.dat". If this is the case, then decide which one is wrong judging from what is hopefully consistent naming of other files within the oxp and change it. (Note, I'm guessing about this...)

Last but not least:

Code: Select all

20:34:52.046 [plist.parse.failed]: Failed to parse /home/mandoman/.Oolite/AddOns/Firewasp.oxp/Config/shipyard.plist as a property list.
Parse failed at line 1 (char 1) - extra data after parsed string
Clearly the error is in the shipyard.plist in the Firewasp.oxp. Linux is not recognising the file as a proper plist. Which could mean that there's an extra comma floating around, or that something hasn't been closed off properly. Have a look at the file and see if you notice anything out of place.

Whew! All done! As I've said, I don't have some of these oxps, so I'm guessing a little here. I'm sure someone'll correct me if I'm wrong!

General advice: Try to be aware of what you're installing (ReadMe files and wiki pages can be helpful) to decide if you need it or if there could be an obvious conflict with other oxps. As you've probably gathered, the log files are useful to debug things. Once you see enough of the errors, you get used to what they mean and have a clearer idea of where to go to try and fix them. I started off posting log errors without knowing how to go about fixing them. These days I know enough to often be able to if not fix the problem, then at least locate it. You'll get the hang of it too, and hopefully be able to fix them on your own soon enough. Sometimes searching the bulletin board can be useful - others may well have already encountered your problem and posted a fix. But if not, continue to post them here. (If you know which oxp causes it, I reckon it's good practice to post in that oxp's own forum thread. But don't worry about that if you don't.) It lets the oxp authors know that there's something wrong and the comoonity will also continue to help you! We're a friendly lot here, to be sure!

Aquatics adds ships before the mission, not just after it. Whilst it does contain a mission too, it adds the ships in all galaxies and so is perfectly legitimate in installation here. The mission bit shuts down fairly much until G3 is reached, so there's little overhead there.

Oh and also you have a couple of errors in the log relating to the debug (javascript) console. Those can be safely ignored as you don't have it installed, but do have basic-debug.oxp in there (it ships with the game).

I think this is also from fuel collector - it's the script for pulling fuel from a derelict. Sometimes these can turn out to be a nasty surprise instead.

Huh! There we go - I did say someone would be along to mop up any mistakes! Cheers!
