Pangrove: Novavoid: I'd like to save that one for the spanking huge hole slap bang in the centre of Gal4. In the same vein galaxy 7 wouldn't be galaxy 7 without "the great rift"

The stairway, well lets have a little look here: to get into it your probably going through a communist system (the communists really have gal2 locked down all right. To get out the top you've got anarchy, fudal.... It could be a great trade route if it wasn't trying to kill you every step of the way.

so maybe the "something" staircase to reflect the lethality of the route? I'll circle it though as I like the way this is going. something like running the gauntlet (Done uploading tonight)

Usoron (TL 10) Corporate State with Human Colonials as a possible candidate for a Governmental seat of Galaxy 2. That's cool (looking back is it just me or does the galcentre for gal1 seem a little odd contents wise?) OK it's a bit wibbly but that's in there.

Zaedvera Pocket it is. (Fierce Harmless Bony Lobsters. Zaedvera is cursed by killer mountain goats.)

"The Crustacean in oormani suit says stop threatening him with that rabid goat and he'll let your illegal cargo through, but just this once." I fraking love this game sometimes. It's lines like that, that make all the pain of taping up broken code worth while......

Teonan Web it is.

OK that'll go up on the web this evening and we'll go from there. In the mean time. I'm going to take a look at the highways. I was thinking as the communists appear to gate keep most of the safe routes around this galaxy. That (logically) gives them quite a say in where the main trade routes go. So I'll try and make the route reflect that.

Ok save the Novavoid. About Galcenter G1. Yes it's not a real center but fiction already defined Zadies as the center.

I'd like to make a bid for "Mandingo's Staircase". :D

There's also a big canyon running south-east from the staircase, making a voyage between some stars which are maybe only nine or ten light-years apart into a huge round-trip. How about a name for it? "The [insert name here] Gulf", or "The [insert name here] Rift". Or "Takla Makan" (Uigur for "Go in and you'll never come out", apparently).

A little research about 'running the gauntlet' on Wikipedia turns up a few possibilities...

die Gasse, "the alley" -- "Staircase Alley"

Spiessgasse (Pike-alley) -- "Spiessgasse Staircase"

Alternative spellings, gantlet, gantlope or gantelope -- "Gantelope Staircase"

Swedish gatlopp ("street run") -- "Gatlopp Staircase"

Or perhaps, nice as the staircase idea is, drop it and just go for "The Gauntlet"

"The Pit"

"Gulf of Despair"

"Lumbay Rift" (Lumbay is Tagalog for desolation)

"Well of Tears"

"Masakit Gulf" (Tagalog for painful)

OK I'm going with Takla Makan With a little alteration due to dialect.

BUT KEEP ALL THOSE IDEAS!!!!

we have plenty more holes to fill. Fooer.

I like Mandingo's Ladder personally. Well not personally of course.

It speaks to me, it has the right angle. It says go in here and your going to get shafted. How wonderfully apt. It also takes smarts to get the meaning, basically it's a 30 something thing.

What about Acheron's Ladder? It's a little less porny, a bit more classical. Right I've done the alterations including a few topical surprises for discussion as soon as I can get to a server with my log in, in it. I'll upload.

The Ladder area, I was thinking it was more like footsteps. Communist controlled... "The March" or "Profit's March".. Keep in mind, many of these names are going to be trader parlance.

Uhmm mandingo... would be known if you frequented certain stores regularly which I don't... So I would claim, that it takes certain sexual preferences, such as rent p..o.r.n to know what you talk about  , not age...

Brainstorm:

ladder / staircase Hard / Climbing / Breaking through / Run

Kessel Run*(star wars) run, Rebeccas Run(fiction)
Iron Run, Oppersite of Milk Run, Kill Run, Hunters Run...
better word for hunter... maybe Savage

so my proposal

Savage Run..
Savage Garden. (pop dou that is now disbanded)
Savage was also the name of a bloke in Deer Hunter (actors last name)

So Savage Garden is my final proposal
Bounty Scanner

New upload for g2, we're getting there. I've taken some small liberties see what you think.

ERLAGE CORRIDOR: Extended: Prisoners, criminals, dissidents and slaves from 4 different worlds are "transported" to a new life in the retirement camps of Erlage.

Fiddlers green: A massive agricultural production belt, and pirate strong hold.

The Equilibrium, hold the only relatively safe path to the upper left quadrant of galaxy 2.

THE MAORIN PASS: Connecting the communist worlds, a dangerous but necessary trade route.

The Tomoka run: a profitable short cut.

Good progress Clymangus. I like the pass Idea.

Looks like the need for a Famous Planets for Galaxy2.0

Any volunteers? With plug ins like lunar cell multiple textures a day can be generated.

You may use the pllists and structure out of my version. Of course I want also custom planet descriptions.

And this is maybe the turn for some other planetary textures out here. Do it in HD-though or at least half HD to keep the Quality consistent. Then at release make also a planet guide G2 in .pdf format like in the documentation directory of Famous Planets 2.0.

Good luck
 :D

Ahem ... how sad it it, when the world craps all over your cherished things. Mandingo, the Three-Eyed Goddess of Luck, is – in my experience at least – a throwaway deity mentioned in Jack Vance's classic fantasy novel Cugel's Saga, written in 1983, when presumably whichever, ah, performer who goes by that name was probably (one hopes) not in that particular line of work. What I meant was that you'd need a healthy dose of good fortune to climb those stairs.

So..... What we're saying here is it works on several levels. The profane, the literary.....

I'm torn between that and something like The Long March.

All I know is that Mandingo was a novel (by Kyle Onstott, but I may be wrong there) about a slave in the US. I read it in my teens and can't remember much about it that would sit well in a porn supermarket. Or was I a very naive teenager?

Point is that it looks like Mandingo may have a host of connotations which might not be desirable.

Well the jury is still out on Mandingo. Much like the swastica it would appear that a fairly noble thing has attracted some fairly bad press, due to alternate usage. So what about a side step other deitys of luck and chance?

slavic : Kob's ladder
The Nornian steps : bastardised Norse.
The uror staircase

Irrispective we are short another zone. Middle/bottom far right or bottom far left are looking a bit barron at the moment. Any body fancy naming a bit of real estate?

I'd vote for Kob's Ladder, myself. It's got the Slavic fate/fortune thing and is also reminiscent of "Jacob's Ladder". Plus at the moment anyway the only extra connotation I can find for "Kob" is a Sub-Saharan antelope ...
