oh no. those silos are huge!
A_H sadly got very busy before he could finish his nicely packaged fuelpods that would be ideal for that sort of thing..

Indeed sadly they are not yet functional as intended.
The plan was to refuel one LY only from a single fuel-can, unfortunately the kindly supplied awardFuel method does nothing of the kind
.
Therefore the pods currently awardEquipment: EQ_FUEL, which is way too much!
And thus the introduced chance of scooping a malfunctioning pod, which has a faulty valve or non-standard fitting, causing a fuelleak. It still tops off your tanks though, so be quick about that jump!
(Murgh thought letting cans Q-detonate, though pretty, was a bit too much of a bad thing. So thank Murgh, for that small favour.
)

What version of Oolite are you using?
Could be that Giles has changed some things since I wrote this, causing the cans to malfunction...
I programmed the cans on an old version of win-oolite, awardFuel did not function then.
And Giles has been doing some things with cargo functionality.

Works on 1.65b3 (PC).
Fuel just jumps to full, but I think it also puts up "Fuel Canister Scooped".

That is ok, it is supposed to work like that.
Don't panic Giles!
I'm sure it works.
It's just that I'm running an older version.
I'll put up a version of fuelpods using awardFuel somewhere next week.
For those that ARE using a current version.
I'll have to scrounge the forums for an uptodate version of Win-oolite...
soon.
edit: done, installed
hmm,
I scooped a green one => no fuel, but did get a positive message,
scooped a red one => death.
I prbly collided with it, its supposed to give a full, if leaky, tank.
I'm looking at it now.

I see what happended here...the pods in the fuelpod-teaser had their deathactions neutered, my original pods were deadlier.
What are those silos you are refering to?
Anyhow.
A new teaser is up, with fixed fuelpod functionality,
customised cargo, custom pod-models and a small surprise.
All should appear occasionally with varying frequency.
The chances of finding a fuelpod are small, so keep shooting up those cargo-hogging freighters!
(I hope the 'suprise' won't lead to crashes, as I did not playtest it for all concievable conditions.)
