Don't push it, lest you end up known as the "Berserker newt"...

You know those who, having been mugged and stabbed, fired, dog run over, house burned down, wife eloped with best friend, daughters becoming prostitutes and their countries invaded - still say that "all is well"?
I'm obviously not one of them.

Which you became known as for preferring to go Samurai on them, when Hesperus (and practically everyone else) were slinging lead.

But no matter. Shot, sliced, or chopped, dead spam is dead spam. How spam gets dead is just juicy details.

If it does happen I hope it is few and far between. Only for long served members who has done a lot for the commoonity. I hope it is rare.

Well, it's true Cmdr Wyvern joined the forum in 2006 and only recently started hunting with us - 36 posts on the "Reporting spam" topic since Jul 04, 2011... but he's been doing it with type of gusto I used to see in the old days!

That I agree with. I wasn't raising an objection to it. It is not a decision that is anything to do with me anyway. I was just stating my opinion that if and when such accolades and honours are given they are well deserved and are rare. Otherwise it looses it's value.

I have been hunting for longer, though sporadically. Missed shots and even misidentified targets have been discouraging up till recently.

But now that the SFS target identification and ranging tool came out, not to mention spammers being rather obvious most of the time these days, the spam doesn't stand a chance.

Just been musing over the extremely quiet time it has been for us Assassins. Hence my musings into Wiki Foo these days.

But what is an Assassin supposed to do when there is nothing/nobody to kill?

Keep the katana sharp and the eyes peeled, while enjoying the peace and quiet! ;) I suspect a botnet has been taken down, or at least been pointed in another direction. For the moment the flood of spammy signups has all but dried up: we're down to two or three a week (from a peak of dozens a day), and most of those don't get past pre-registration.

Yeah, May 29th was the last reported sighting!
Like Leafy I feel a bit redundant these days, but fear not, my guard is still up and I check several times a day. Any unwelcome visitors will be tagged :)

I often see Google [Bot] sat there lurking, and even today saw psbot [Picsearch] but like you guys said there are NEVER any spam messages on the forums anymore...although seeing as I've amassed over 260 posts since April when I had to create a new account, so do I count as a spam bot?

What? With a measly 3.71 posts per day? Nay, not even close!

It takes a lot more effort and patience until you can seriously be considered a spam bot on these boards. :P

I could be wrong with this and I'm sure some kind soul will correct my knowledge if I am, but those bots are search engines so there is no concern of them spamming.

Correct - they are the data-gathering spiders for the search engines. Indeed they aren't really accounts at all here, it's just how phpBB3 displays them.

Google's evil minions sucking the internet dry until they know everything about everything and everyone... Perhaps we need to spray them with some of this:

You know I can't understand why anyone would want to kill spiders! Do they want to be over-run wih flies? And anyway what would cats do without spiders to amuse them?
