I really like what you're doing Sung. But I think you should replace the texture 'dark metal' with something more like a single plate of metal. The blue stuff you put on doesn't work good in some of the places the game and some oxps use that texture. Try for example to look at the Rock Hermit docks and the turrets of the Giant Rays in Commies to see what I mean.
I appreciate what you were trying to do. The docks are a bit boring right now. One thing that could change that a lot, would be the ability to add subentities via roles instead of names.

The dark metal is used in the basic set as the docking bay texture for the stations. When i change it to a normal metal detail it looks ugly as it looks before. I understand the problem of the oxp's. But the basic gfx looks terrible. My wish is to give Oolite a professional look.
Is rock hermit in the basic set? Or is this problem only with oxp's?
Everybody can choose what he want's to see on the screen. I prefer high detailed textures and eye candy. It is not easy for my to texture a mesh that i have not build from the scratch.
Sorry
Maybe the oxp's textures can be changed?

Cos
I have removed the link. I will finish the textures for myself.

Great work!
As I said, I really appreciate what you're doing. But I don't think that it's a good idea when basic textures can't be 'trusted' anymore. Rock Hermits are a part of the basic game and they do come out quite ugly, with that particular texture. Having seen your work so far, I'm sure that you can make a nice looking piece of dark metal.

Just insert the line:
<string>rock-hermit</string>
into the file
...\Oolite\oolite.app\Contents\Resources\Config\demoships.plist
to get a look.
Also please do consider that some of these standard metals may have been used by other expansions through the years - perhaps also by people who no longer update them. I really find it poor taste to recursively ruin the work of others. What I like about how expansions have been done so far is, that expansion makers take into account how their releases will interact with what is already out there. The metal pieces should be something expansion makers can count on imo. If you want to make stations with more interesting docks, you should use separate station models added through an oxp - or at least put a disclaimer on your release, that it may ruin how basic models and oxp models appear, so that new players realize where the ugly look comes from when installing your textures and don't think that the problem lies with the models that are made ugly by your dark metal texture.
