First day and you are already on the forum? Nice. 8) Anyway, welcome to the friendliest board on this side of Ridequat!

That was fun to say :) I'm pretty new here too, so I haven't gotten to say that before!

G'day, ToBeFree, and welcome aboard! 8)
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

Hi

I already introduced myself here https://bb.oolite.space/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=13377 but as that was some time ago, I thought I would do it again :-)

My name in RL is Ben, and I was introduced to Elite by my Gran's next door neighbor who had the BBC disk version. I only had the Tape version though, so had to make do with imagining all the other ships mentioned in the manual.. I also had (still have) an Amiga 500 but despite the improved graphics, it didnt quite have the feel of the BBC version I thought. I tried Frontier but gave up when I started flying round in circles!

I only discovered Oolite in January, and since then its fair to say I've not discovered a lot else! I've just got my 3,000th kill and am currently flying an iron ass BCC. I love the way you can tweak the game to your liking and the help you get from the kind folks on here. Once I get to Elite, I might then dabble in 'the dark side'. I have an idea I want to try but as yet no clue what to do! It will be fun finding out..

Ben

Hi

I just discovered this fantastic game when looking at Elite Dangerous, my first Elite experience was with the Acorn Electron back in the dim distant past and I had my longest games on a C64 reaching Deadly but never Elite. I have played many space games since but never found the satisfaction of Elite - I have downloaded the game and a couple of add ons and would like to add more, there seems to be hundreds, I feel like I have arrived at a party a couple of years too late. Any suggestions or help will be gratefully received,

See you in the space lanes

Welcome aboard, Alan. The usual advice is to stick with eye-candy OXPs at first (of which there are many). If you haven't already found it, the [wiki]OXP_List[/wiki] is your friend.
However, you really should have [EliteWiki] Random Ship Names installed - pure immersion!
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

I would consider it fashionably late .

It's probably bad form to recommend your own add-ons but if you want to be rewarded whilst learning to dock manually at those pesky rotating stations I suggest my [wiki]Safe Docking[/wiki] (which requires [wiki]GalCop Rewards[/wiki]).

As Cody pointed out [wiki]OXP_List[/wiki] is your friend but I suggest you take it steady and don't add too much at once. This way you should be able to tailor the list of OXPs you use to meet your vision of the game.
