Having been in software development for over 20 years I'd have to say that the one man team is perhaps the most efficient. It's down side is that the one team member has to be prodigiously talented to pull it off. The best commercial teams have 3 members with one 'lead' and a good spread of skills. Oddly this is the optimal number of members for a terrorist cell (a fact known to both sides and very difficult to infiltrate).

Agreed, one man CAN make a difference. And yes, I know I've nicked that from somewhere, but I can't remember where.

He's achieved a HELL of a lot in three/four months. More than Frontier managed in 10 years for Elite IV. I think he'll definitely achieve his goals and more, probably long before his advertised deadline then go on to make an even BETTER game. Remember Peter Molyneux and Bullfrog? They pushed out fantastic games at a rate of knots. Then they got more people in and took longer to make worse games.

Elite? 2 developers = groundbreaking game. Frontier? Whole company behind it = mediocre game.

The old adage of "too many cooks" tends to be the rule in games design, I think, since so many different ideas and different understandings of those ideas can be counterproductive.

I am really looking forward to Limit Theory, perhaps more than E:D to be honest. Josh's dev diary and gameplay demos wipe the floor with the E:D rolling demos and "marketing" hype. LT gives real information and visible evidence of the progress. E:D gives promises and "it would be cool" claims.

I really laughed out loud at this comment on the rockpapershotgun-article:
Also, a video showing him shooting at asteroids that opens up into a pitched space battle. He’s pretty much fucking with Braben, isn’t he?
That was after the release of Limit Theory's first gameplay video, which was released after E:D's first gameplay video, and I somehow was able to share the sentiment. 8)

Heh, yeah, I think I commented on the similarities myself. Interesting that two developments that are separated by thousands of miles and several years worth of development are so startlingly similar...

;-)

It's all very tasty. And all knocked together in a week or so. Maybe less. And that's while going to lectures and studying.

The man's a god. And it's sickening that he's probably half my age.

Fixed that for you.

That depends on whether you know your age. "The man's" age at least is known: he's 20.

I'm beginning to think of it in terms of "I could be his father".

I'd be PROUD to be his father. Yeah. I said it.

I wonder if he'd let me adopt him. Would that count as a pledge?
