Still hoping somebody will build the CAT for you eh, EV?
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied
Diziet - Have a look at the screenshots for some concept slave ship designs. The first ship I imagine is the standard medium size slaver, (Probably the 40-50 ton ship you asked for), while the second ship is a large slaver if required.
Let me have your thoughts.

Man.. you sure know how to do ugly and industrial! (and I mean that in the nicest way, of course ) And I'm guessing the undersides are probably just as detailed.
I'm impressed. The bigger one kinda reminds me of the Nostromo and her refinery. As if the forward Command Section could detach, leaving the Cargo Section (first ship) behind. I have no idea if that would even be do-able in Oolite, though.
Mate, I'd love to use both.. it stands to reason the slavers would have more than one size of vessel.
(Smivs is gonna have his work cut out for him, texturing those babies!)

I have no problems at all if you want to use both. I can sort files out for each and get them issued.
Have you thought what length you would like each to be ? Also at present I have left the engine block as a simple rectangular-ish shape. Is this what you would want or would you prefer to have an arrangement of smaller individual engine nozzle set within this block ?

See the screenshots for each below

Sizewise, I'd say the large one should be bigger than the blockade-runner, so let's say about the size of an Anaconda, 170m. The smaller one in proportion to that, I'm guessing it will come out around 130m, which would be Python-ish.
Looking at those (excellent) underside shots, I'd say 3 engines would look about right.. one large central one, with a slightly smaller one on either side.

OK Diziet I have scaled the larger ship to 170m long. If I scale the smaller ship to match then it comes out at 112m long (tip to tip). Do you want to keep with this or would you prefer me to scale to 130m or another length? Either is fine by me as it is a quick job to rescale to suit

I'm sure you will do a great job.
Before I UV map I will go through the 3D Wings models for each and dissolve panels that were split up for the purpose of modelling and no longer need to be defined as separate panels to make things as easy as possible.
I will also send a copy of the wings file so that you can tweak if needed.
Do you also want these mapped at 2048x2048 ?

Seriously, they look awesome...I just hope I can do them justice.
On the bright side, a lot of what you do on the small one can be re-used for the larger version..

112 sounds fine..
