Sgeulaiche, you might want to check out Redspear's rescaling thread...

I've been thinking about trying my hand at getting rich without any violence, so went looking for a fast unarmed ship that could do the trader/courier thing. I was wondering if there was a Serenity available and found this thread, but the page for the OXP on the wiki seems to be missing so I couldn't check the specifications.
However, reading the rest of this thread, while it looks pretty, cargo capacity of two tons seems a bit low for a freighter with 8 or more people aboard that carried two shuttles, herds of cattle, etc. Does anyone actually use one of these? If so, what are you doing with it?

Challenge. Not even pure self defence against assassins etc ?
Making money from parcels requires sufficient elite skill too (about competent at least), how could one possibly reach that ?
Some starting ships don't let you make money from trade or cargo contracts.
Limiting to self defence only however should be quite possible as there are always enough suicidal pirates or thargoids.

I want to see if it's possible with no violence or weapons at all, not even self defence, but anything goes in avoiding combat e.g. going way out of the system plane. I don't expect it to be easy, and I'm not sure it's possible at all, but I'd like to give it a try. I agree that parcel contracts will not be a big money maker in this one.

Thinking about it, I once had about 20 kills or so and several 100k credits with a commander. If you concentrate on trade and cargo contracts with a cobra 3 or something else with at least 35TC cargo space it should work. (So that you can improve cargo contract reputation until you are offered the precious metal contracts). But it's pretty boring, that's the main disadvantage. You need to make sure none attacks you assassin-like so that you cannot end the combat by running away or dropping cargo. Some pirate AIs seem to behave similar to assassins, in particular, the ones from Deep Space Pirates and Aquatics. Allowing yourself a weapon so that you can force them to flee, but still keeping kills at zero, may help. Firing a missile also works, but costs money.
I's also a very safe way of playing...if you want to never be killed, you have to always avoid all combat.

Well, its 9 years, but today I uploaded a tweak. I added another texture and equipped this ship with more lasers. For further details please read below:
Overview
========
This multi-purpose, medium-sized transport ship is a homage to the
Firefly Class ship "Serenity" from the
Firefly TV series.
For better adaption to the Oolite universe some modifications took place:
larger hull (88 x 40 x 146), original 52 x 24 x 82
less cargo space (55 t standard + 15 t extension), original 85 t
4 laser mounts (3x fore, 1x rear), original none
2 pylons, original none
Credits
=======
The "Firefly Class Transport" is a tweak of the Firefly test ship from Staer9 (V 0.50 / 2012) so all credits belong to him.
Staer9 (concept, model, most textures)
Remarks
=======
This ship acts as a trader or (sometimes) as a pirate. It is using multiple lasers with 3 laser mounts fore, NPC's are using pulse or beam lasers.
Requirements
============
none

hi montana - Linux case sensitivity doesn't like the mis-match in texture names (lower case in shipdata.plist reference to upper 'S' in .png files); quick edit now has the skin showing, sure looks good 8~)
cheers!

Thank you and sorry for that, I had a mess with lower/upper "s" which resulted in 3 uploads at the same day, I thought I got all, seems I still missed some.
Do you use V 0.52.2 ?

Please let me know if there are still problems with the latest version, on Windows it seems to be stable now.

Hi montana - no issues as yet, she's running like a charm 8~)
I'm guessing the off-set rear view was a deliberate choice by Staer9, to give better visibility of targets; I don't have a rear laser fitted (haven't fired a shot in anger, tbh) so curious to see how target sighting is gonna work (I'm a 'run like hell & pick off what you can' kinda guy *grin*).
cheers!

I did a test-run with the firefly but only over 3 systems instead of my standard 10. However, I liked the ship and with 3 military lasers even Anarchies are easy to handle.

Okies - I've taken out the first couple of pOorates using a rear-mounted military laser, but that rear view just wasn't working for me; seemed like the placement was way too far forwards towards origin & much of the view was obscured by the hull, any target below the horizontal required a fair degree of roll/pitch to get 'em in sight & that can be a challenge in combat when yr looking backwards.. 8~)
I stared at the numbers in shipdata for a while, 'til I realised I was thinking in terms of Blender's co-ord system; made a lot more sense looking at the model in Wings3d. Anyways, I've settled for "0.0 11.57 -70.92" for the moment, looking to locate the view at the rear of the upper protrusion on the back of the hull; seems ok from a very quick test, hope to take it for a proper run later today; thoughts?
cheers!
