Re: How the Energy Bomb works theory...
I would actually prefer to keep the energy bomb, just because it is part of the Elite legacy. It should indeed behave exactly as it did there and thus not be as strong as it now.
Maybe it could be available only in strict mode (which I regard as "as true to Elite as possible"), so that Oolite can progress beyond its legacy but still honor it.

Isn't that what strict mode is?RyanHoots wrote:Maybe we need an Oolite fork that stays truer to Elite...

Exactly. But if the e-bomb is removed from the core game, it won't be. Maybe the bomb should be in strict mode only, instead of completely removed.Selezen wrote:Isn't that what strict mode is?RyanHoots wrote:Maybe we need an Oolite fork that stays truer to Elite...

Seconded. Although I would say allow it to be added back in as an OXP so that those who want it can have it.RyanHoots wrote:Exactly. But if the e-bomb is removed from the core game, it won't be. Like, in some file somewhere:Selezen wrote:Seconded. Although I would say allow it to be added back in as an OXP so that those who want it can have it.
Code: Select all
ebomb-strictonly = no;
Re: How the Energy Bomb works theory...
I thought that was the plan all along (at least the strict mode only bit)?

Guys, it's already doable. Have a look at the energy bomb entry in your core equipment.plist and you will see that just changing the
strict_mode_only = false;
to strict_mode_only = true;
you can disable the bomb as you see fit in the main game.- RyanHoots

Re: How the Energy Bomb works theory...
Nice! Then why does the energy bomb need to be removed for MNST? Wouldn't it be sufficient to just set the default to true instead of false?another_commander wrote:Guys, it's already doable. Re: How the Energy Bomb works theory...
Precisely. It was originally planned to be removed completely, then we got a big wave of resistance over this and finally settled with this solution. Whenever we would want to remove the bomb from the game, we only need to change that one line.maik wrote:Nice! Then why does the energy bomb need to be removed for MNST? Re: How the Energy Bomb works theory...
If someone wanted to have a one-shot hyperjump device activated by the same button as the energy bomb as a replacement for the energy bomb, how would they do it?
Take an idea from one person and twist or modify it in a different way as a return suggestion so another person can see a part of it that can apply to the oxp they are working on.

What's the E-bomb's damage amount? 1000 damage?
How can I reduce the damage of the E-bomb back to C64 Elite proportions?
