I'm loving your retirement Smivs! Right, I'll be back at six. Try not to make a mess people until then!

Well, I logged on around half ten in the morning (which is very late for me), and the first thing I saw was this cheeky spammer staring me in the face.
Retired or not, I wasn't having that!

Good man! I did kill off our one spambot over night, silently and most satisfyingly!

As of 1230am all is quiet. Hoping the night shift has a quiet time of it. Night all.

Their pending posts were even more of a give away...
Love the interests on both those profiles - so relative to this forum ('Political Interests', 'Skiing'... )

Now I've retired I need a hobby to occupy my time, so I've started collecting Classic Spam!
On and off over the next few weeks I propose to go through the memberlist looking for old 'members' who look a bit suspicious - possible 'sleepers' or spammers who might have slipped through the net when the net wasn't too effective.

Joined in June 2004 and last visited in Feb 2010. No posts. Two links in profile (one 'website' and a similar one in the sig both to do with 'Szintec'. Both links are now dead, but googling suggests some on-line shopping/marketing/promotion connections.
Clearly not an active spammer, but might have been once and looks like dead-wood anyway, so I'll leave it to the Master Assassins to decide if any action is appropriate.
I think it's probably OK. I've found a hit for the "szintec" link on the alt.fan.elite google group (from a few years back admittedly), but it seems to be someone with a genuine interest in Elite.

You are aware that Leafy (and others) have already done similar, yes?

No I wasn't aware of this. Also, I can see this exercise could just be a PITA for you, so perhaps I'll find a new hobby instead.

Wouldn't it be quicker/easier to just have a clear-out of account which are older than x months and have never posted and not logged into the forum for y months (where x and y are up for your discretion)?

That would be an Admin decision - but that type of account isn't really a problem. There
may be a few 'sleepers' buried in there, yes - but if they 'awake', they'll swiftly be deleted. I don't think they're clogging anything up - they just sit there. But as I say, not for me to decide if a clear-out is either needed, or desirable.
