Now that's interesting.. is the difference in terminators simply due to distance, or are those two terminator lines actually being rendered differently? I.E. does the line stay sharp or grow fuzzy as you fly over there?
I would guess the planet has an atmosphere and the moon doesn't.

Doh! Of course!

Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

I had a valuable parcel to deliver here...

... eventually, station control relented, but they had me worried for a while!

Found my first system with rings today. Pretty awe-inspiring coming out the the hyperspace tunnel:

Well it was a bit of work but it was only half-assed staged. I forgot to unequip the Towbar but didn't want to redo it :D

I also wanted to have this nice station to have their red blinkenlights on, but the timing was always bad. Also, the Camera drones are quite nice for a "cinematic" atmosphere, but for screenshots it is a bit too cinematic. Are there other camera OXPs which maybe have freely manoeuvrable cameras? Then the angle of the station could be done better and the ship could be in the golden ratio to the top left.

Well, one could always postprocess such images but then I would not call them screenshots anymore 8)

Nice escort fleet :), right after you launch them.

There is a retractable option in towbar.js: set $TowbarFixed=false and you will see the bar when you actually tow a ship only.

[wiki]TrackerCam_OXP[/wiki] is still not maneuverable but you can drop a camera as a mine and align yourself for a screenshot.

Wasn't a big fan of the flat, monotone text, so added a bit of shade to make it less '86 ;)

EDIT : ended up with this

This is completely a vanity shot of the new ship-- the original model was the Cobra 2 from Aegidian's X-Ships. That model is very small for the amount of cargo the oxp sets it at (it's about 30 meters but has a 12 ton cargo bay) so I chopped that down to a mere three tons and fitted an integral passenger cabin (using the no-removal trick from Smiv's Yelloo Cabs), to make her a bit better balanced.

The lighting was perfect, the angle was perfect, the background was perfect, the timing on the shot was perfect... so of course I forgot and left the HUD up. Still, not a bad look, and the livery and nosecone art show up pretty well!

Reports of my death have been greatly underestimated.

One small step for humankind, one giant leap for me.

I think I'm starting to get the hang of combat, though still running from 2+ enemy ships, and still loosing around 50% of combat.
but... MOSTLY harmless....

I made a new freighter. and was thinking how much it should be able to carry in cargo.
So I looked at real life sizes, and this is how it looks :D
(The yellow lines are a Cobra Mk III, though its the Redux.dat. there is also a Oolite.CobraIII.Dat which is 80'ish meters. donno which one the game uses.)
Fyi : the 747 can carry around 52 ton of cargo, and Statue of Liberty weighs 225 tons
