It's just how Zygo's awesome cinematic space looks like in Witchspace, combined with taking the snapshot at the exact moment when the green glint from the Thargoid hit starts fading out.
Witchspace? Is that something other than the interstellar location of a failed jump? ...Like a mission/campaign?

No, it's interstellar space, I am just using 80's terminology. ;-)

Install this OXP, and in a few months time you'll see a whole 'nother kind of Witch space..
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king!

How are your monitor settings, Solo - it's definitely purple.
Monitor settings? No doubt they've been terribly skewed by my faulty colour vision so I can see my prey. :P

Hmm... my eyesight may be slowly deteriorating, but my colour vision has always been good.

Oh yeah... Ergeso is a revolting dump! You heading for the Halo? There is a backdoor (of sorts) into that sector.
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

Maybe a gamma correction issue? Because I had to look REALLY hard to see the purple on my laptop and it looked black on my HDTV.

No back doors this time. I'm not - once more - on a black ops for the kindly old Admiral. Rather, immersing myself in a very good yarn, and following the trail to it's tragic end. Yippee Kay Yay!

If I'd known about it back then, the old trickster would have used that backdoor route to Lazaso (not do-able in the core game, of course - too much fuel required).
Following the old trail, eh? Cool - but beware The Gates of Damocles! The fierce frogs that inhabit Biceri are known for their ingrained shyness.

Got bored in my Mining Transporter and took my chances when I saw a blue sphere luring me in. What an alienesque sight greeted me when I came out of the witch space tunnel.

This is Orerve with ZygoUgo's Cinematics, three moons from Additional Planets and sun from Distant Suns.

This was the kind of scene I was envisaging when spara asked me how I would like additional planets to look.
We had a discussion about some of the options and then spara created the necessary code.

That what I was only able to imagine, could be created so evocatively is all credit to spara :) ... plus ZygoUgo and Wildeblood for their excellent oxps :D

...In other news: has witchspace always looked that cool with ZygoUgo's cinematic skies???
I haven't visited the Thargoids for an age...

This screen is just amazing. We don't need E:D when we have Oolite, do we?

If someone fancies, here's a 1920 x 1080 wallpaper of that Orerve shot. Trunk-text is edited out.

Umm.. I guess you're not aware that photobucket automatically resizes images to a maximum width of 1024? You might want to try box.com instead.

Are you sure? If I click the link, and then click + and again + (View Original), I get the original 1920 x 1080 image.

I think you can disable that (which I think I have done for my Photobucket account).
