I can think of two, so far …

Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy
Poul Anderson's Guardians of Time

Hint - don't only look at English language material

Hint - there is at least one other comic book title

I will also accept titles with the singular Guardian rather than Guardians.

There's a pretty terrible film from the early 1990s, called Abraxas, Guardian of the Universe

The Guardians (and the series which follows) might scrape in as military sci-fi?

Sorry for the delay replying. Yes, that's five - there's also

The Global Guardians (DC comics superteam)
The New Guardians (DC comics superteam)

Also several superheroes called Guardian, Guardian Angel. etc.

And I think I had at least one other "Guardians" but I can't find the sodding list now.

OK, since Cody got the last answer he gets to bowl the next over. Over to you!

<bowls a gentle off-break> Name the tune, name the novel.

Clue the first: the novel is by one of the greats - as is the tune!

Clue the second: the novel dates from the early fifties, whereas the tune dates from the early seventies.

Hi all. Inexplicably, my laptop has in some way reverted to allowing me to see the Oolite BB again after I don't know how many months (at least a few years) :?

To the question at hand though, and I'm probably quite off the mark, but I remember a TV (BBC maybe) mini series when I was a teen (sometime in the late seventies early eighties), which could have had that sort of suspenseful music. But having seen the original movie, which might or might not have had some similar suspenseful pipe organ chord progression, but was filmed well before the 70's - then I'm not so sure.

Anyway, and attempt1 (without Shazzwhatsit), my guess is for 'Day of the Triffids', John Wyndham - who I consider one of the greats (he effectively got me started in SciFi)

In my musical defense and for the obscure tie-in value, 'The Triffids' were a popular club band in Perth (downunder) in the 70's - not that they wrote organ score!... and they weren't what I would call one of the greats.

However with a bit of sidetracked searching I did find the name Wendy (born Walter) Carlos who wrote the score for 'A Clockwork Orange' for an Organ, which puts the movie in the right decade, but alas not the book.

So I stick with DOTT and have to draw a blank on the music.

edit: <--- oooh, 'Elite'

As we await the appearance of the wizard Shazam, I note that Iron Maiden recorded a song of the same name.
