Welcome aboard, Doug - plenty of Elite veterans here.
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

An Elite veteran AND a browncoat! Welcome aboard, Doug! 8)
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

Hi All,

I've just discovered Oolite and I cannot thank the devs and all the modders enough. Its both a nostalgic trip to my past and a breath of fresh air.

I remember playing this back in '85 on my C64 having seen it on a friends BBC the year before, it was the first game that I stayed up all night playing, when the sun rose and the birds started tweeting (pre-Twitter) I remember being quite shocked that the time had gone so quick......but I had that Military Laser!

I recently fired up an old Spectrum 48K I have been hoarding to show my son the "good old days" and the cassette was in the box, sadly I couldn't find a tape deck! This led me to Oolite in a roundabout way.

Again, big thanks to all involved, I'm having a blast.

Cheers

If you're determined to show your son what it was like, you could always go to Ian Bell's website, where he has made many of the different versions of Elite available to download for free, and you could then run it using an emulator on your current computer..

Hi folks,

I've been playing Oolite now on and off for a year or so now. I've downloaded a lot of OXPs and I'm now feelig like I've
a) got a pretty Iron Assed ship
and
b) got the hang of flying it in combat again.

I say again because I was, like a lot of you, an Elite addict way back in the early 80s on an old BBC B without a disk drive. I had a mate with a disk version of Elite and I was so jealous that he got missions and a wider variety of ships but even on the basic version I had I used to lose days to the game.

I've now introduced my daughter to Oolite and she's getting a bit addicted too. I'm a bad dad!

Thanks to all the developers and modders etc who've made this game a reality. I absolutely love it.

Hi all,

Played Elite years ago on a friends Amiga 500, and Frontier: Elite II on my own A1200.
Always one of my favorite games. Glad to find Oolite, and a fairly active community to help me get back into the swing of things. :D
