So what you know:
-The main character is human male, solved many mysterious situations in our solar system, both in spaceships, Mars and on the Moon.
-Terminus the robot was important once.
-Author is not Asimov.
-The title of the book contain the profession of the hero.
-(New:) There are independent stories in the book, more in a second book which got almost the same title.
The questions are the name of the author and title of the books.

OK, I thought this was Dan Dare: Pilot of the Future but it wasn't so I had to cheat on this one and use Google - Tales of Pirx the Pilot and More Tales of Pirx the Pilot by Stanislaw Lem.

Let it sit for a day or so - the thread is perhaps a little tired.

Exactly right!
A really nice video mashup with scenes from a lot of SF films

And a black and white version with all samples from TV and film prior to July 1969
https://youtu.be/3dt7JpN7Bv0
I did think there was a version that had shots from Elite but I can't now find it.

A torture location in one of the best classic (my favourite) sci fi/fantasy films, is now an IKEA store.
Which film am I talking about?
