Greetings, Commanders. I'd like to showcase the very first screenshots from my WIP <classified>.oxp, featuring the mind-blowing texturing creativity of Smivs.
Presenting.. the Katapatan
and yes, the running-lights cycle around the ship.. it looks quite squid-like in action.
An earlier shot, before the side-lights on the body were added.

Very nice! ...so... are there any chances of a routine to cause the intensity of the ship colour to gently fade and rebrighten - to enhance the organic feel of the ship, and make it appear alive - as if it were 'breathing', or had a organ pumping fluid around it...?

A leaf texture, looking like veins. Very clever. Very horrible and alien, too. What a leap forward in texturing. Well done, all.
The pulsing effect could also be a dark patch on the wing / wings that slowly expands and contracts. Like a beating heart(s).

@ Smivs - I reckon this might the moment to learn some shaders - if you could impart a 'pulsing' effect to those veins that ship would look even more amazing. - urgh - Ninja'd

Could you make the veins glow with an emission_map? If so it may be doable to vary the glow colour (emission_modulate_color
) via script to simulate pulsing. It could pulse very slowly normally, and more rapidly in combat. Not sure how effective it would look in practise, but might be worth a try?

Look at Griff's Thargoid Motherships using his Alternate Fresnel Shader.
Looks like the mothership in Close Encounters.

looks awesome! Lovely Flash Gordon style vibe coming off it
