In this list, I will put 3 which could give interesting movie:
A Canticle for Leibowitz will be excellent and deep
Rendez Vous with Rama will be epic space opera
Titan could make a comedy

Chronicle of Amber will make an excellent series but not a movie

Now, my own dream scifi books:
The Book of the New Sun of Gene Wolfe will make an incredible movie but it needs to be at least a tetralogy. The story is too rich, too barocco to be restricted in a linear story. This is for me a major masterpiece of modern litterature, not less.
Riverworld of John Farmer could also make a nice trilogy. There is action, sex, fun and a lot of deeper thought it looks, a reflexion on the relativity of history and cultures etc...

But Gene Wolfe's Book of the New Sun, PLEASE, Mr Boorman, try to make it !!!!
There is no theory of evolution. Just a list of creatures Chuck Norris has allowed to live.

Use of Weapons ran out the winner.
I was pleased to see that On Basilisk Station at least got some votes... I like the series from whence it came.
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!
