1.6mil? The most I've got up to was 200k, I'm at about 160k right now - then again, I'm still flying a Cobra Mk III, rather than anything with bigger cargo capacity.Ganelon wrote:(cutting lots of good stuff for brevity)
I'm coming up on having played Oolite for a year now. I still tend to be a bit tight about spending. Sure, I have about 1.6 mil, but I also know that a couple bad ship changes or a run of really nasty luck for a week or so and I could be hoping real hard I have enough in my cargo hold to cover repairs when I come limping into a station. LOL It's part of what makes the game fun, though... The times when you're rolling in the credits and the times when you're limping and hoping you have enough to get back into good times again.
You're quite right about reputation - the better you do, the better paying contracts you will get. Installing the display_reputation OXP is a must if you're doing cargo carrying or passenger ferrying... or hauling UPS packages, or taking Bounty Hit contracts, etc.
Bear in mind that if you stop doing (Foo), your reputation in (Foo) will deteriorate over time; I used to have a "Best in the Galaxy" rating for passenger ferrying, but that is back down to zero now as I've sold the passenger berth and am doing Bounty Hunting instead, which is more lucrative, but also more dangerous and has higher running costs. "Plus ca change, plus c'est la meme chose..." as the saying goes.
