The ship you're texturing is 3rd generation. The first one wasn't good enough, and the second one ended up with a corrupted dat file which somehow also ended up screwing up the Wings file as well...

As I lost my first version I restarted. Here is a preview pic of version 2. Better than version 2 in my opinion. This time I have a backup made in case of a stupid overwrite like last time.

Nice, although I'm not so keen on the name boards. Especially as each of the liners are individually named by the scripting. But aside from that it's looking the bees knees.

Will be interesting to see it fully textured and in-flight.

lovely. i'd say the name plates would be ok/better if the colour scheme matched a bit more. red doesn't seem the right colour for a ship named "emerald" :-D

why not use Thargoids names on their nameplates, it would mean several versions of the same ship but just with a diffent nameplate. not unusual on shipping lines to have identical craft with different names.

The naming is done by the script after the ship is spawned, so it would be extremely difficult to do (and would need post-spawn shader decal changing). Plus there are several hundred name possibilities in the script (some of the options pick a random planet name from the galaxy you're in to make something like "Empress of Lave") so nameplating all of them would be impossible.

Hence my thinking to remove the name plates completely and just let the target ID show the ships name etc.

I can delete the name boards if you want. np.

The Behemoths use ships with different names, I believe even written on their sides.

So do the Generation Ships, but this is different. Thargoid is talking about randomized names, not 16 or 30 fixed names. And you can't provide ready-made name-plates (which have to be PNGs) in advance, if the ship is only named in a randomized way when it is spawned.

I'm guessing you could get round the randomised names problem by making each letter a decal. Would the "on spawning" part still kill the idea though?

Indeed. I don't like the fixed pool of names, as you can end up with two examples of the same ship in the same place if you're not careful. I know you can also with the randomised names, but in this case there are several hundred available combinations, so the chance is much smaller.

As for the name-letter decal, sounds like a nightmare to me for this kind of instance, but perhaps do-able for fixed format ship ID's, in a military stylie. So rather than naming per-se, it would be an identity number or code. One for the shader experts...

Now that is looking good. May look nicer without the model's edge-lines in it (especially at the back and around the engines and the bridge area) but that's just judging from a simple static image.
