[cheat.tentative]: POSSIBLE CHEAT DETECTED
It does some checking. And some values are illegal to edit. In particular on trumbles it is very picky and won't allow the removal by editing your save file.

255 is the biggest number that can be represented in an eight-bit byte. It is also the same bit pattern used to represent -1 when treating a byte as a signed integer. If the game somehow allowed you to fire two missiles without checking how many you had in between, it would subtract 1 from 0 and get 255.

As for Elite Plus, do you recall a code number displayed on your Elite shield as you were awarded it? It was supposed to have some significance, but I can't recall what.
Hmm Im afraid I dont remember the code at all, Theoretically I may still have it somewhere I was so over the moon about it that I kept it on that screen and got the printer up and running and done a print screen.

Just tying up the two "threads" here, I wonder if we could put a unique identifier from the save game into the Elite display? an "elite" registration number?

Kind of "Proof of Eliteness"?

as much of one as you can get in a game open to exploitation. Consider it your personal elite certificate number. Theres no way to tell it wasnt gained with the tionisla cheat. But you will have a "unique" elite certificate number for your very own

"Eliteness" is an anagram of "Selenites". Particularly apposite on the 40th anniversary of the launch of Apollo 11.

There were two Acorn versions, one for the BBC (which Acorn built) and one for the Electron (which I had). There may be more but these two I'm sure of. The Electron version didn't have any Thargoid ships and was completely monochrome. I'm getting all misty eyed just thinking about it!

Hi SeaDog, and welcome to the friendliest board this side of Riedquat.
Nice bit of thread necromancy
for your first post, nearly two years after the previous entry!
Hehe.

Not the best start! Sorry about that, it didn't occur to even check the date *'o,'*

No worries. This happens frequently, and usually causes amusement rather than anything negative.
As a (rough) general guide, any thread further back than page two is probably ancient.

Hi SeaDog and welcome... have you tried Oolite in wireframe mode yet?
Oh... we're not averse to a bit of thread necromancy here, in the same way as we're not averse to a bit of professional thread derailment.

Not yet, I'm still poking about. Had a bit of trouble installing 1.7x, because I already had 1.65 from the Ubuntu repositories and it took a while to realise the conflict which was preventing the unpacking of the new one. Looking forward to exploring the OXPs!

You'll certainly notice a LOT of big improvements in 1.75.x over 1.65. Good move, upgrading, and as I hope you found the installation on Linux is a doddle now.
