Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied
Wow... yes... choices choices!
I don't want to drag the thread too much off topic here, but I have to admit I'm an old Elite-head at heart and I was really set on a Supercobra as I could justify to myself that I was still playing the game in a Cobra!
Funny really that I don't mind adding OXPs that take the game away from the original Elite, but I still think that I ought to be flying a Cobra!

I hear what you're saying - should I ever get enough time to play the game - my plan is to own a SC...

For all the time I've been playing Oolite, I've never switched from the Cobra Mk. III. Why would I need to? It has everything I need. A good turn of speed, enough cargo space to scavenging and trading worthwhile, and enough equipment to make it a truly formidable fighting ship.
Bell and Braben knew what they were doing when they made the Cobra Mk. III the player's ship.

True, true, but.... In my C64/Amiga Days I always wanted to see what it would be like to own a different ship... it seems churlish not to take the opportunity in Oolite, to live out this childhood fantasy.Nemoricus wrote:For all the time I've been playing Oolite, I've never switched from the Cobra Mk. Yeah.. I understand where you're coming from.. I have to admit, now that I have a working trunk build as well, I do love that normalmapped Griff Cobra... but this is why I've split off a couple of gamesaves under different names, so that I can take them in different directions. I have a bounty-hunter-me, a pirate-me, and a trader-me, so that I can take on whatever persona I happen to be in the mood for that day.. they are all flying different ships now, as they chose ships that suited their plans, but all stem from the same original character..dalek501 wrote:Wow... yes... choices choices!

..
And, as OSE WiP V0.4 seems to be nearly bug-free as of yet, perhaps you want to get yourself this one and buy a Tiger Hauler Mk II?Screet wrote:Concerning it's you, I'd say it has to be a tigerCaptain Hesperus wrote:I'm in the market for a SuperCobra, Imperial Courier or Tiger Mark I too.
This one has the same specs as the Tiger Mk I, but is upgradeable with LCB to ~ 165 tons of cargo space - costs 1.3 million Cr or somesuch. Will pack more trumbles into that hold
Have fun

When looking in the code that selects the quantity, I see it generates random amounts, but when that amount is less than 30 tons it chooses a new random amount until it gets one of 30 tons or bigger. That excludes by definition any craft with less than 30 ton cargo bay from the contract market.nijineko wrote:i've never really seen the nice courier contracts... guess i've been too busy bouncing around and seeing the various sights in galaxy 1.
I also tried to figure out the maximum possible profit.
Maximum offers are 497 ton, 9425 kgr or 19841 grs. After figuring out how discounts and premiums are calculated I see that the highest value contract that could be offered is a platinum contract with a gain of about 500 000 credits. Now just wait until that arrives. (And make sure you have always about 900 000 credits ready to accept that contract)
So there is nothing to brag about a mere 160 000 credit contract.
UPS-Courier & DeepSpacePirates & others at the box and some older versions
