Well I'm guessing that the accepted convention has changed. I was schooled in British English, and taught to put my , before my " so perhaps it's an archaic use that is no longer as widely taught/accepted.

I can assure (read: disappoint) you all, no hermits, poets, or arts graduates were consumed in the making of this fiction. And since evil brandy was out of stock, we settled for local beers and homebrew ale.

Yes, there will be no poet snaffling. Not on my watch. We leave that kind of thing for the (mostly dead) Baron Munchausen thread.
