Could be old drivers on the XP computer. Can you post the Latest.log file from both systems, after launching the game and exiting immediately?

I don't have a Logs dir...just Contents and resources...and there's logs dir under either of those...

I’m no expert so I’m not going to be much help. One of the minds may assist.
A thought…what GPU are you using. If ATI, then driver update may help.

Ok, that's weird, there should be some files, and dirs for GNUstep, Resources, Logs and (if you saved a game) oolite-saves. i fired this up using my Vampires and a save game - everything seems fine except the HUD is missing 
the image etc is all in the OXP, anyone know what's gone wrong?
