Isn't this effectively what they did in Stargate and Stargate Atlantis? (I'm with Virgin and therefore lost Sky 1 so never saw the latest series of SG:A) but one of the last episodes I did see was a link between the Pegasus Galaxy and our own using hundreds of Stargates across inter galactic space - we're just trying to do that on a much smaller scale.

Also - with regards to this idea being a Game-breaker - well, how about considering that if such technology was available it would almost certainly be used by the military - why have several huge fleets when you could have one or two and access to jumpgate technology. So combine two ideas - 1) that oolite can be coded to allow +7LY jumps to occur and therefore the envisioned jumpgates exist 2) they're controlled by the military so if you want access to the 'gates then you need to do lots of serious work for "them" - a huge, huge, galaxy spanning mission/battle where the reward is a jumpgate access beacon - now there would be an OXP and a half!

I was not thinking about a jumpgate everywhere but on the spot I marked at the map for this particular jump. I again can not see that its a game spoiler. If you charge 400 credits for this jump it would be expensive enough. However I was just plating with the idea and wanted to know if it is in theory possible. A.t.m. not I understand due to the limitations of the current Oolite engine.

Xelite used to have a 14LY fuel capacity, it made a huge difference to the gameplay, you could pop across the whole galaxy in about 3 or 4 jumps. Whilst it was fine for Xelite, which to all intents and purposes was basically a better looking classic elite, it would not enhance Oolite because there is so much more to do and so many different missions and strategies etc.
