Wish I'd brought my two new ship designs in! Oh well, tomorrow it is.

Been a bit busy with RL recently to do detailed Oolite work, but here are some designs of a ship that I'm provisionally calling the Banshee.
I might make it a high speed cargo runner, better at going in a straight line than getting involved in dogfights.

Very very nice, looks like it could be a Bertone styled ferdie

Just saw the pic below in Pop Sci, now there's a possible design inspiration (they're robots, not real jellyfish)...
To perhaps something like this (with a bit of z-axis stretch):
I think I might play some more with this inspiration...

Excellent.

I don't like the tail as much, I think it'd be best if it tapered out a bit.
Otherwise, it's looking good!

Surely that’s a cluster missile? ;-)

That was the part that gave me problems, as on the original pic it's not really too well defined. The current one actually tapers back in again (it doesn't show from the angle on the pics above, I'll post a tail-on view tonight).
I tried tapering outward (before I stretched the image along Z-axis) and it ended up looking like a table-lamp It's one for a little more playing I think...

I did ponder that route for things, but Ramirez has superbly covered all requirements for missiles and bombs in his OXP, so decided to go for a ship-style instead.
Although I have got some thoughts in mind which I'm planning once I've reviewed the AI writing wiki pages and have a little more free time than I currently have - too busy invading the galaxy

That looks pretty good, Thargoid. If you get the top half, or just the spine/tentacle shings rotating around the Z axis that would be cool, and also some funky shader effects (that I'm afriad I haven't got to grips with yet). Aegidian's Weeviloid Hunter would be a good place to look up the technical details.
I've never been very good at the texturing myself so if anyone would like to have a go at painting the Banshee I'll upload the wings file for people.

Thanks. Shaders I'm afraid I can't do, as my kit doesn't support them (I do most of my work on laptops, and my desktop machine is very old and decrepit). But likewise I'm more than happy to make the wings file available if someone else would like to assist.
I did wonder if it would be possible to do something with the tentacles, will go hunt the weeviloid for clues, thanks for the pointer.
As a thought would a "shipyard" file area somewhere for wings files of the various ships be possible, so people can get inspiration, play/modify or re-texture/shade existing ships?
Update - OK, maybe I'm being a dumb alien, but where can I get the Weeviloids OXP? The link points to Oosat, and I can't find it there?

Hi Thargoid. The Weeviloid OXP is available on the
Oosat 1 site. Not where the wiki link points to, I know, but...

Thanks, can't check there at the mo (I'm at work, and Oosat 1 is proxy-blocked but here and Oosat 2 aren't). Will look later.

And now the updated version, including tail-on view and also added a couple of tentacle rings (which if I can sort it will counter-rotate). It's probably going to be christened the "Man o' War".
Now to go get that Weeviloid OXP...
