I thought of another 'good on the paper' thingie - a communal purse. When something was sold, instead of going to the player, it'd go to a common fund to be distributed

Ah, and a further development on a way to handle paying the crews discussed earlier:
When an applicant asks to join, they'll say how much they want to earn monthly, or within every, say, 10 jumps- if we scratch our heads for five minutes we can come up with a nice formula.

Instead of paying per sortie, they'd stay around as long as they got what they asked for. For this effect, all sales on diverse fencing establishments would go to a communal purse, and whenever the period was over, they'd ask for the division on the first landing - before any further sales, as the OXP GUIs come before the stockmarket. If there isn't enough, the player can put the amount short from its own pocket or pay normally from what there is on the communal bag and let go of the ones unhappy with their pay, and the rest would go to the player.

I love all the ideas Maegil! One possible way that we could include them ALL is if we made this OXP less about adding multiple ships and more about adding multiple crew members. Pirates would join up to your ships crew and crew space would be limited depending on your ship type. Cobra III are limited to just two right? While pythons, boas, and anacondas would offer larger crews for larger raiding parties. This would solve the cargo distribution problem and the future problems of AI which believe me is VERY LIMITED. As far as I know their isn't even the capability for mutual protection. So, for instance, if a ship attacks player, other pirates in your party will not respond. I tried this once before with my convoys in galactic navy. Even Eric admits its practically hopeless.

...this would be kind of self-defeating, wouldn't it?...

EDIT: I mean, it could be used for the docking stage... create a pirate bunk capable of carrying 5 hoodlums on 10TC and go around hitting convenience stores - it wouldn't be too bad as an entree, a demo until the full thing came out the but by itself it isn't what we (or at least me) really wanted.

EDIT AGAIN: The more I think of it, the more I like it.
I still say it could be a limited demo before you figure out how to fit other ships, but it'd allow to at least have some fun with minor outposts and it could be another asset on the count for station invasions.

I'm just throwing ideas, brainstorming. I know I'm spouting a lot of crap along with some very few usable ideas, but I'm still on the quantity phase... Use what you want, perfect what you need, and just discard the fluff.

Anyway, much of it would require JS, if they were doable at all, such as the messaging of NPC cargo scooping, and I don't even know if a death action could reduce both the cargo hold space and a variable parcel of cargo when a ship is lost - can it?

Maybe the pirates can make use of a new sort of ship:

The Assault Transport class.?

Pirates aren't famous for their R&D departments and drydocks... they couldn't develop a dedicated troop transport, or a dedicated anything for that matter (regarding an old talk of a pirate carrier OXP). The farthest they ever went was building the basic Kraits on their back yards from stolen and published DIY blueprints - no development being needed.

What they can do is modify existing equipment to suit their needs with low to medium tech on back yard chop shops.
In this line, they'd probably use a modified Python, for instance, half-loaded with a landing force and leaving the remaining room for loot.
