1.62-2 had a known issue with an AI stack overflow (which would cause it to crash) - hence, 1.62-2 has not been the current revision for some time. The current stable release is 1.62-5 and has several bug fixes. Try running that instead (either run 'oolite-update' in a terminal or download a fresh package).
Ohh. oolite-update, eh? Hmm. Sounds like it's a lot easier than the download. Thanks.

BTW, version 1.62-2 for Windows didn't work at all in either Windows XP or Windows 98. Was it the same problem with this version as with the *nix version?

(I'll upgrade as I type.)

Thanks. I'll let you know how the next version of Oolite works on my system. (1.55-1's very nice!)

Fatal signal: Segmentation Fault (SDL Parachute Deployed)

Erk. It looks like Oolite died with an error. When making an error
report, please copy + paste the log above into the report.

Well. It's not as bad as it would seem. I resolved the issue by renaming the AddOns folder to AddOnsOld and created a new empty AddOns folder. The games seems to work fine.

I guess I should add the AddOns one at a time to see which one causes this version to go nuts, eh? Sounds like fun.

It's not a permissions issue, with your old AddOns directory, or one of the OXPs in it, is it?

I've seen a similar report from a crash that had tugs.oxp installed. did you?

Another beginner question

Since this thread is help for beginners, I have a newbie question of my own. Can you own more than one ship? Like a Cobra for fighting and a Python for cargo runs?

That's something I wished I had in Frontier: the ability to buy several ships that would run back and forth between planets trading goods.

You would have to hire escorts of course, and see to that they aren't running empty because the planets can't keep up production in the same pace you're trading.

It would be like Railroad Tycoon among the stars. :^)

The answer is no. A number of people have requested something like this. I don't know if it will ever come about, but it has been discussed.

Nope; not permissions

Nope. I didn't touch a thing as far as permissions are concerned. I matched permissions for the new "AddOns" folder and all worked well. So it must be something IN the AddOns folder that disagrees with Oolite.

That's okay. I've gone through things like this in Windows: isolate the bad AddOn by adding them back in one or two at a time. Then drop it altogether.

It's my own fault. I'm adding all kinds of OXPs. It's a bit of a crap shoot. I don't know what most of them do. I've just had so much fun with Oolite but I'd like to see new ships and stuff. I feel like a kid in a candy store.

I played Elite on a C64 many, many years ago. I liked the way the attackers were never predictable. Sometimes they'd run away. Other times they'd fight to the death. I've seached for something bigger and better for many years. Homeworld was about the closest in "fun" factor to Elite. But Elite was what I wanted. I don't like games where the opponent mindlessly attacks against the odds to an eventual death. Even "bad guys" think on occasion.

So, a big thanks to the Oolite team and forum boys and girls!

Oh, uhmm. Lemme see.

The OXPs I've added start at "A" alphabetically (Aegidian Special) to "L" (longway). And that's as far as I added. So I never did get down to the "T"s. Again: I'll just add them back in one or two at a time. I'll soon know which one is the culprit that cripples my copy and I'll post the results here.

Who knows: it might be just some small tweak and it'll work.

Nailed it...

...it's been located. It's an AddOn called 'custpaint1'. That's it. Pulled it out and all works well.

Thanks again.
