Re: Docking == Crashing?
Just to sow further confusion, and to show off, I did 20 test runs using 1.77.1, and got 20 successful dockings, including one into a torus station. I also had to sit and wait a few times while other ships docked in front of me, or while ships coming out behind me cleared the lane. I tried it from the edge of the aegis, from really close in, from beside the station, from behind, from behind to the side and off a bit to the left ... 100% success rate.
Re: Docking == Crashing?
Because of the way the docking "queue" is currently implemented, yes, it can jump it. It's more a docking heap - apart from the ships making their approach runs, everything else (including player with DC) just makes a check every 10 seconds or so to see if the station is ready to take another approaching ship. Similarly the player with DC will always get in before rather than after launching ships.Cody wrote:Slightly off-topic: should the DC jump the docking queue?
Without DC the player has to wait for everything on approach to dock, and then anything queued up to launch, before getting a slot, because the station can't trust them to follow the approach pattern properly.

Interesting... so the DC becomes a time-saver in a busy aegis. Hmm... time is money, in my current line of work.
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

I am using version 1.77. Also, no OXP's are installed and I wasn't messing with any different views - always front view. Looking at the replies here it seems I was quite unlucky.Disembodied wrote:The important thing here is, the autopilot shouldn't fly you into the side of the station: that's why we need to know what version of Oolite lesliev is running (and, maybe, if the stations are default main system stations, or have been produced by an OXP).
I also agree that "d" to dump cargo isn't the best default key setting: shift-d might be better.
I remember the old DOS version of Elite I used to play did crash my ship, but I only ever saw it do that when I was really close to the station or behind the station when I started docking.

Re: Docking == Crashing?
If your FPS is below 20 (press Shift+F to see) then try to increase it by reducing graphics details in Game Options (p for pause then F2) at least until you will arrive into the dock and your luck should be better.
Re: Docking == Crashing?
That's not it. I think it's that not-turning-at-the-end bug.Norby wrote:If your FPS is below 20 (press Shift+F to see) then try to increase it by reducing graphics details in Game Options (p for pause then F2) at least until you will arrive into the dock and your luck should be better.
My FPS is typically > 60.

Version 1.79, 100% succes rate with standard ships (Cobra Mk.III, Mk.I, Constrictor, Python), with some OXP ships (Lyra class, Caddy, Falcon, Typhoon Freighter, Sunracer, Kestrel) 100% too.
Re: Docking == Crashing?
Ok, I'll try to upgrade.V12 wrote:Version 1.79, 100% succes rate with standard ships (Cobra Mk.III, Mk.I, Constrictor, Python), with some OXP ships (Lyra class, Caddy, Falcon, Typhoon Freighter, Sunracer, Kestrel) 100% too.
Thanks for all the tests!

I've tried to compile the Git version on Ubuntu 14.04.lesliev wrote:Ok, I'll try to upgrade.V12 wrote:Version 1.79, 100% succes rate with standard ships (Cobra Mk.III, Mk.I, Constrictor, Python), with some OXP ships (Lyra class, Caddy, Falcon, Typhoon Freighter, Sunracer, Kestrel) 100% too.

After installing some required libs the build seems to work with this command:
But right at the end I get this:make -f Makefile pkg-debtest
If I just run:dh_install -i
cp: cannot stat ‘./oolite.app/Resources/oolite-document.icns’: No such file or directory
dh_install: cp -a ./oolite.app/Resources/oolite-document.icns debian/oolite-data/usr/lib/GNUstep/Applications/oolite.app/Resources/ returned exit code 1
make: *** [binary-indep] Error 2
debuild: fatal error at line 1346:
couldn't exec fakeroot debian/rules:
make: *** [pkg-debtest] Error 2
Then it ends off with:make -f Makefile
I don't really need a package, if the package stuff is out of date.make[1]: Entering directory `/home/leslie/dev/git/external/oolite'
GNUmakefile:1: /common.make: No such file or directory

Re: Docking == Crashing?
No need to compile the latest development version. We have buildbots doing that every night for us. Just get the latest nightly for your OS and bitness from here: http://terrastorage.no-ip.info/oolite/status.html

Re: Docking == Crashing?
And then, once the nightly is installed, you can always update to the latest build just by opening a terminal in the Oolite-trunk folder and executing:
Code: Select all
./oolite-trunk-update
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

Oh brilliant! Ok, getting that...Diziet Sma wrote:And then, once the nightly is installed, you can always update to the latest build just by opening a terminal in the Oolite-trunk folder and executing:Code: Select all

Re: Docking == Crashing?
This looks amazing. So many graphics improvements!
Re: Docking == Crashing?
...but does that mean that the docking computer is just crashing you into prettier-looking stations?

Pretty station and a docking computers in the action :
