Follow-up: We're setting up the wiki on another one of Winston's servers now, which is more reliable. Once everything works fine in the copy he will switch over the DNS record so that the URL points to the new copy. The whole procedure will take some days as both he and I are mostly busy with work at the moment.
DNS changes also take a few days to percolate through the system.

Honestly, I don't know in this case. When you are changing the DNS entry for a top-level domain this is correct as the DNS systems of internet providers have to be updated. But in this case the providers' DNS will continue to point to Winston's alioth.net domain. There he runs his own DNS which resolves the subdomain. So I hope that this change would be immediate.

Well, there's likely to be local caching of the subdomain resolution, to avoid doing a DNS lookup on every single request, but as Winston runs that he can set the TTL right down to a few minutes a couple of days before making the change. Still, might take a while for every cache to completely update.

Thanks, cim.

Further information regarding the move: You can edit the normal wiki as long as you want. Once we're ready I'll put the wiki in read-only mode and then synchronize all the edits to the new wiki. Once this is done, Winston changes the DNS entry and we shut down the (then) old wiki.

Apart from the wiki residing on a different server there should not be any other change.

The dynamic ships page - wiki.alioth.net/index.php/Dynamic_Ship_List_(Oolite) - won't load and hasn't worked for about 20 minutes, possibly longer. Everything else seems fine.

(Symptoms just like the OXP List when it wouldn't load.)

I want to know how the transclusionificated Dragon ships appear on this list, but this page is not responding.

It seems the server is too slow for creating the list within 60 seconds, so it times out after the CPUs have been burning for 60 seconds. I'll ask Winston to increase the limit again and then I think we will have to look into installing a cache for the MediaWiki...

For the time being, I limited the results list to 100 entries so it displays again and you can see the Dragon entries.
