No worries. I'm just curious what their answer will be. Box.com HQ is on US pacific time from what I understand, so maybe we'll have an answer this evening.

There's a reply there now from Box - the stats aren't coming back to the main screen.

Can't say I'm very happy about this (not particularly the loss of the functionality, but more how it has been done and handled). Also seems rather an own-goal to do something like this on the very day that Google launch their Google Drive and everyone else in this field is scrambling to up their user offering and experience. What do Box do? They downgrade it...

... and Dropbox announced just a few days ago that they're doubling the total space you can have for free and doubling the referral bonus.

"Hey Martha, have you seen ma foot?"
"Sure, Bud. I last saw it at the end of your shotgun."
"Aw, darn! What about my other foot, Martha?"
"It's a double-barrel shotgun, Bud. You work it out."

But, with dropbox why do I need to install an executable file to my PC. Which I am not willing to install any executeble file to my system or they may have a web GUI which I don't know yet.

On the Box Community the link is here. I think more posts of unhappiness may cause a change in their policy.

I think they are trying to cover a programing mistake because they can not afford to correct it .

I think you're right. Dropbox I don't think is for me having looked at it more (it has no counter), although I'm going to use it as a back-up store for my OXPs anyway.

I just wonder that now the question has been "answered", if they'll even bother to look any more.

Yep, not for me either.

Dropbox does not give download stats, sadly. Its primary use is not public sharing of files, although it can do it.

If you own multiple computers (Windows, Linux, Android, others),
* anything you put in the \Dropbox folder is automatically distributed (firstly via a LAN, failing that, by Internet) with all the other computers you own.

Also, a copy is kept on their servers which you can access from any web browser anywhere. So:
* you can get to your files from any computer connected to the internet.

They also keep a history, so if you delete something or over-write it,
* you can get the old version back from their servers.

I recommended it to mandoman as a light-weight backup solution. By keeping all your work-in-progress in the \Dropbox directory, it gets uploaded in the background.

I have it on my Windows desktop, my new Linux desktop, my Windows and Linux Netbook partitions and my Windows laptop. It means I can take a computer with me and be sure I can access my current work without worrying about making copies.

Mrs_SandJ has her own Dropbox and we have a \Shared area which we both access: household financial spreadsheets and the like.

It is not an ideal replacement for Box as the stats are absent. Nor is it a formal backup solution. But it's a damn-good background permanently-resident-and-active make-a-copy utility. Hence the executable.

For those in-the-know, it is just a pretty front end to the Amazon storage servers. I would not recommend storing your AllMyBankingPasswords.TXT document on it.
