I didn't know the "o" key was to hide the hud when the game is paused. I think I was the last to learn that... Nice feature...

Try flying/combat without the hud - great fun!
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

Great fun and great difficulty! But it makes for nicer screenshots of the game, just watch out for those ships/stations/asteroids creeping up on you...

Yep! Get in real close amongst a bunch of bandits - great dogfighting!

Would be good if the scanner was able to malfunction or become damaged during fights - without this handy piece of equipment on the HUD it would make dogfighting much harder and exciting. Perhaps a future suggestion? 8)

If I recall correctly there are a few huds that already mimic this. Can't remember which ones though. I will see if I can find one.

As I've said before, I'd like a simple on/off toggle for the hud that doesn't need pausing.

Let me interject a little Smivs-esque self-promotion: MilHUD 4000.
For a bit more of a combat challenge, the scanner can be temporarily damaged during combat, and will blank out, but will reset itself automatically once combat is over (assuming the player survives). This feature might not appeal to all players, so M4000 includes a hidden setting to over-ride it, again adjustable from within the game with no need to edit files.
