Re: Race for the Finis...
Speaking of encouragement, I donated to your charity (though some weeks ago already). That said, your discipline in reaching your weekly goals baffles me. Wish I had some of that
Looking very much forward to the finis!

Re: Race for the Finis...
Thanks Maik!
I have many faults, but delivering things on schedule is rarely one of them. (Except the short story competition... yes I know!)
Wish me god speed tomorrow though. 44.3k this week so far, against a target of 46! That's 1700 words in two hours.
Cheers,
Drew.

So 10k to go and a full month left? Sounds like you're overachieving and we could be in for nice a Saint-Nick's day (Dec. 6th in Germany) socking stuffer

Re: Race for the Finis...
Aiming for the end of November as a first draft. That gives me most of December to proof, edit, tweak, enhance etc...
Still looking good, but I've probably still got 15-20k words left to write in that time.
Cheers,
Drew.

So how does one apply for membership in the "Guild of Proofreaders"?

You have to transfer across from the "Guild of Nitpickers and Pedants"Bugbear wrote:So how does one apply for membership in the "Guild of Proofreaders"?

I think you'll find that to be the "Guild of Nitpickers and Pedants."DaddyHoggy wrote:You have to transfer across from the "Guild of Nitpickers and Pedants"Bugbear wrote:So how does one apply for membership in the "Guild of Proofreaders"?

ps. Seriously. A handful of proofreaders from the beginning of December would be invaluable. However you must:
a: Be able to read fast
b: Promise to finish the story in a week and markup for my benefit so I can hit the Christmas deadline.
c: Really know your grammar
d: Not reveal the story to anyone else prior to formal release
e: Be aware you will be 'spoilt' by reading an untweaked and potentially flawed version
Any takers - PM me
Cheers,
Drew.

Re: Race for the Finis...
I left that in (or indeed out) deliberately. However, I would suggest that, given I could have written it thus: Guild of Nitpickers and Pedants. Therefore, the full stop needs to come after the closing quotation mark.drew wrote:I think you'll find that to be the "Guild of Nitpickers and Pedants."DaddyHoggy wrote:You have to transfer across from the "Guild of Nitpickers and Pedants"Bugbear wrote:So how does one apply for membership in the "Guild of Proofreaders"?

Having failed you badly on Torn, I feel loathe to offer again, but by the end of November I'll know what my own lecturing/work/research/writing schedule is likely to be - and if I can read it in a week I will offer my services.
Good luck.

Re: Race for the Finis...
Dyslexia precludes me from applying I'm afraid.
