Re: Science Fiction Trivia
snap, thats the exact page i found and read...lol
ok as its becoming the norm to post multi part questions or ask for multiple answers ( to slow you guys down a bit) , here we go
name 5 robots from BOOKS with book and author ..
rules... has to be from a book first. so no starwars as they were movies before books were written ..... no TV scifi either unless there was a book first.
not AI either so HAL9000 doesnt count. robot doesnt need to be "humanoid"
P.S. this could be a fishing trip for me to find some books to read...lol

Re: Science Fiction Trivia
Robots? Would that include an autonomous combat drone by the name of Skaffen-Amtiskaw?
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills

Re: Science Fiction Trivia
Would've expected this from Adams' fans around: Marvin, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Douglas Adams.

Hell, checked!
<mumbles about listening to rock and disco to the radio at the time instead of the nice shows/>
<grim idea:/>But do we know if Marvin was in the radio show?
Nevermind! The follwing should do, though:
R. Ceronimo, The Robots of Dawn, Isaac Asimov.
AL-76, (story)Robot AL-76 Goes Astray/(book)The Rest of the Robots, Isaac Asimov
ZZ Three, ZZ Two, ZZ One, (story)Victory Unintentional/(book)The Rest of the Robots, Isaac Asimov
(and no, ZZ Top is not in there )
Edit: The last two stories were first published in "Amazing Stories" and "Super Science Stories", respectively. Do they count as books?

<grins> I caught the first episode by being lazy, as back then one had to cross the room to change radio channels.<mumbles about listening to rock and disco to the radio at the time instead of the nice shows/>
And yes, Marvin the PA was in the original radio series.
Chworktap - Venus on the Half-Shell by Kilgore Trout (aka Philip José Farmer).

Re: Science Fiction Trivia
Is Gort the most famous movie robot? That was originally a novel, I think.

Re: Science Fiction Trivia
<mumbles> should have specified 5 different authors........
we have magnanimously decided that Commander_X shall be deemed to be the winner of the snakey boots( that smell a bit fishy).
On the grounds that its time someone other than Cody, myself ,Disembodied or Smivs wins a round....
Its all yours Commander........
P.S. this is no way to get book ideas when i have read all of Asimov years ago...lol

Re: Science Fiction Trivia
i would have thought so but wiki has a different idea
Gort is a fictional humanoid robot that first appeared in the 1951 20th Century Fox American science fiction film The Day the Earth Stood Still and years later in its 2008 remake.
In the original science fiction short story "Farewell to the Master", on which the two films are based, the character is called Gnut.
Arthur: OK. Leave this to me. I'm British. I know how to queue.

Arthur Dent: I always said there was something fundamentally wrong with the universe.

<Chuckles>
I think Dredgerman should get an honourable mention as well. He's almost as sad as the rest of us

An easy one from the new comer: Waff and Horza, what do they have in common?

They're both featured in books I've never read!Commander_X wrote: ↑Sat Jan 21, 2017 7:58 pm<shiny eyes>Snakey boots with a bit of fishy smell received. A bit of whisky poured in for their, and later my treatment, you know, Stalin-like

I'm guessing this doesn't win the prize though - and having Googled like crazy and correlated the only information I can find about either one, I am dismally failing to make the connection.
