<grins> My apologies, spud - it's cryptic, not an anagram, and it's a novel by a well known author.
Solve the first part - Bull's eye? - and the rest should follow. <chortles>
Another cryptic clue: green desert sand.

while i am waiting for the Tea to kick in and the sub orbital flight to land, i have to admit i have not read a lot of Pohl.
there are so many books and so little time to read. started reading sci fi in early high school. now when you are in a small town of 2500 people 50 Kms south of brisbane in the 1970's the only place i could get books was the library. Asimov,Herbert, Moorcock Wells etc, were about all they had. over the years i have picked up many more... EE doc Smith, McCaffery, Jordan,Feist,Eddings Hamilton,Webber ,Silverberg, Burroughs a few among many others i cant recall. Tolkien of course. Douglas Adams without doubt! i lament that most of what is called "SciFi" nowadays is fantasy. all swords and sorcery. dont get me wrong i enjoy well written fantasy but there is so much derivative dribble to wade through.

I read my first sci-fi novel when I was ten/eleven, but I was already hooked into sci-fi. My dad knew a newsagent who got back numbers of old forties/fifties pulp mags such as Astounding Stories. While my pals were reading Eagle/Dan Dare, I was reading Heinlein.
