When I first made Tionsla I made it purple like. However Status Quo mentions that Tionsla is from affar a bright yellow spot. This is maybe a bit exaggerated but true. The Tionsla atmosphere holds certain components that cause the yellowish look. 8)

Looks nice! I especially like Tionsla, it's got a nice, mars-y feel to it.

Any chance of my texture getting used?

Just a test of how far you can take it with planet detail. Just did a very small part of the surface. But it's possible to make incredible detailed planets with very large textures. Texture is 222 kb. 8)

The file size is the least of your concerns. In memory, that’s 32 MiB (4096 * 2048 * 4 / 1024 / 1024). People play Oolite with graphics cards with half that amount.

Yes, definetely a reason for me not to get an OXP with this texture in it. It would not likely mess up my graphics performance and frame rate.

Actually, I have noticed a lot of OXP makers trying to cram in large textures into their models. I know these look pretty and all, but part of the art is in making a texture that scales well, not a painting that will look good at any size and is then scaled down.

Best wishes,
Oscar

That's the reason it's just a test. The textures in the OXP will be the same size as System Redux. This was just to look if it's possible. On my computer it works like a dream but I know that some computers cannot cope with large textures and complex 3d models.

So don't worry.

For myself though (and for others who want one) I keep a ridiculously large texture on my HD.

I for one would be one who wants some ... do you have replacement textures for system redux?

:D

@Lestredae

I first focus on the basic OXP. If I am right Stromboli is making a texture for Lerelace a.t.m. I don't know if he wants to make another. But for the basic pack there are 4 remaining.

If it's released I maybe thinking about a 'incredibly detailed planet just for the fun of it OXP' which will contain 1 incedibly detailed planet. 8). With big waring signs in the reame and on the wiki 8)

Keep up the good work! :D

Just one small thing: The planet is called Tionisla. And I'm quite sure the Tionislaians wouldn't be very fond of having their planet's name (and, hey, it has the famous orbital graveyard as well) spelled badly all the time. :wink:

Tech question: I just got the free version of terragen 2 the landscaper prog. it seems (i've only read a bit of the manual so far) you can make planets with it. I wonder if you can convert them to dat files and import them directly or just use the image maps. Hmmmmmmm. /taps lips
