On another thread here P A Groove offered a large (6Km) 'Thargoid Planet Invader' to anyone who wanted it. It was just what I needed for my current OXP project, so I snapped it up.
It has a model by ADCK and had a P A Groove texture. For various reasons I decided to re-texture it from scratch, but re-used much of PAG's excellent artwork in the final version.

Welcome back ADCK! 6 months and 25 days since your last posting - not that I was counting or anything - you didn't call - you didn't write...

Nothing amazing, but since it's been a while, here's a couple simple screenies..

A landing bay view of a scuffed Cobra MKIII coming in for a landing.

And the name seen on a Generation ship in interstellar space of G2. Precise location is withheld as per Galcop regs, of course, but just in case anyone has ancestors onboard...

... On the other hand, with the speed at which Generation ships move and the distances involved in interstellar space, probably no need to put on the kettle just yet. But hey, they could be arriving any.. uhh.. millenium, now.

Thank you, Mauiby the Fug.

It actually took a few tries. Harder than I thought to land a ship looking backwards, even taking it slow and easy. 8)

Yeah, I'll say... I've tried that a few times myself, flying backwards. Nice shot, Ganelon.
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

You've got that director's touch! Good pics. Docking cobra III might make a good screen saver. 8)
Take an idea from one person and twist or modify it in a different way as a return suggestion so another person can see a part of it that can apply to the oxp they are working on.

Actual video of docking could make a cool screensaver. But I don't know enough about video, really. I've been trying to figure out a way to manage an external camera to do a fly-by or other scenes of a player ship in action, but it's not looking real likely at the moment with my skillset.

The only way I've been able to think of to manage it with current capabilities would be to make a lot of "custom view" options with the camera at very slightly different distances, then do a lot of "move slightly, pause, switch to camera view, take pic, go back to normal view, repeat". And then stitch 20+ of those together to get each second of video. Basically "stop motion" stuff. Not sure as I'm up for that.

Oolite is very "player ship based" so far as perspectives go. It's not really made for shooting video except for cockpit footage or from a fixed spot near the player ship. No surprise there, it's a game, not some sort of space movie making utility.

Why screensaver? You can do some sort of animation ingame. And with Cabal_Common latest toy it's not really that difficult to do some simple animations...

I'm currently finalizing a small demo - when done the new CCL version will be released.

It's not that difficult anyway - I already put out an animation demo to show some simple stuff that can be done with the frame callback feature (and the old timer method, as a comparison). But if CC can open it up to even more people, then all the better.

What would it take to make some kind or instant replay function that would store up to the last 30 seconds beginning with contact under 2 to 5 km and exporting individual video playback files to a separate folder whenever a button is pushed? Is it even possible or would it be possible for a future version of oolite? Logging video combat kills would be cool as sometimes I end up in strung out near impossible fights and would like to enjoy it from the third person later. 8)
