Since Thargoids and Oresrians resemble each other, the same could well be true of their ships.. what do you think of the idea that Griffs' new ship be Oresrian?
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

Have a look at this: http://wiki.alioth.net/index.php/Oresrian_Trader

However, they currently miss the warships. That's strange for a species with their behaviour, thus I like the idea.

You do understand there will be screenshots coming after this, right? Just lemme set up a batlle or two and will be right back. But to be a honest, a video is really necessary to show what is going on with this baby. Coming up soon in a screenshot thread near you.

Well a_c, If I recall you use Windows, yes? if so, CamStudio is really easy to use for making videos.. you could record your battle..

Griff, my Intel's GLSL compiler fails to link your new Thargoid shader with tis message:

Code: Select all

[shader.link.failure]: ***** GLSL shader linking failed:
>>>>> GLSL log:
ERROR: Global initialization of uniform not allowed.
The solution is to move the line

Code: Select all

vec4 PulseGlowColorClamped = vec4(max(PulseGlowColor.r, 0.4), max(PulseGlowColor.g, 0.1), PulseGlowColor.b, 1.0);
from where you currently have it to inside main(), preferably at the beginning of it.

thanks for the bugfix for the shader A_C! I've added it into the oxp and re-uploaded it (same link as before). i noticed i'd also made a mistake in one of the paintcolours of the green thargoids resulting in one having the wrong colours, so i took the opportunity to fix that too and adjusted the tharglet launch position a bit as they would sometimes hit their mothership when they launched

I've added a tharglet model to the thargoid oxp, i couldn't really come up with any ideas to make it look like alien tech so i took the easy route of sticking an alien head with evil glowing eyes on it! :)

edit: changed the pattern on the underside of the tharglet to look a bit more 'alien' in design.

Very well done, Griff. I really like it.

How many of the classic ships have you gone through so far?

If only the Cylons had thought of this - the humans would have surrendered out of sheer fear!

And what about a link to all of them / a merger of what you have done so far? :D

Funnily enough, i got my old C64 Elite manual out the other day just to check how many ships there were left to do, there's blooming loads left! :(
At the moment i've done the Adder, Cobra Mk III, Krait, Sidewinder, Thargoids and the Police Viper, there's still 12 other ships to do!
When 1.73 comes out i'll make a wiki page and put them up there in proper oxp versions, at the moment i'm just sticking them in this thread as tests because i'm a bit obsessed with tinkering with the shaders all the time :)
