Just to check if this is a single machine with that effect:
Could someone with a windows machine check if the installer hangs? I do not yet understand why it is reported for the first time...

I want to report a couple of bugs:
1) The pre-release installers hoopsnake.7 and hoopsnake.8 do not start normally in Windows 11, but the process of the running installer remains in the background.
2) After installing OXP PROHIP Xpat b1 (
https://wiki.alioth.net/index.php/Refug ... r#Download), the "Available" and "Instaled" lists on the "Expansions" tab do not load.
So I just tested the OoliteStarter 0.1.33-hoopsnake.8 installer on a fresh Windows 11 installation. After download Windows warns about potentially unsafe code - but that is due to paranoid settings Windows (or any OS) comes with today. The installer itself did not hang - it works as expected. And so did OoliteStarter.
The OXP
PROHIP Xpat b1
is not in the
Available
list. How exactly did you install it?

...and what did he do with that link? Download an artifact? Presumably. Then it sits in the browser's download folder. What next?

If it is zipped, unzip.
Take the .oxp and bung it in your “addons” folder (not “managed addons” which I understand to only recognise oxps/oxzs with a manifest.plist). But it might have a manifest.plist… sneak a peek!

How does Oolite Starter check for updates to Oolite? I'm finding that it will notify me to update to a version I already have installed. For example, right now it's telling me to update, but I updated 2 days ago, and the last change was 2 weeks ago.

It compares the installed version with the latest available version. This is happening here:
https://github.com/OoliteProject/Oolite ... .java#L185
I suspect when you configured OoliteStarter you did not detect the full version, and/or you did not update that entry after updating Oolite.
So what version does OoliteStarter think to have, and what version is it suggesting to download?

I have OoliteInstall-1.91.0.7640-241005-1b94d45-win.exe
and Oolite Starter is telling me to download that version.
So after each update I need to point Oolite at it again, even though it works correctly? I always install it to C:\Oolite, so the directory is never versioned.

In the Oolite Versions tab, it shows 1.91, and points correctly to the executable.

So it didn't give me the update message all day yesterday, but it did again just now. The version hasn't changed.

So since Oolite 1.90 all we have is 1.91.
How would you know whether an updated version is available if not comparing the full version?
Which is newer?
- 1.91
- 1.91.0.5573-240220-6be83cg
- 1.91.0.7640-241005-1b94d45
That implies OoliteStarter needs to know the exact version.
This is even checked automatically, given that the Oolite home directory is configured correctly.
https://github.com/OoliteProject/Oolite ... .java#L385
That method emits warnings if the check fails. You could check if you see them in your logfile.

Got it, ok! So it can't really track exact build versions.

Umm, now you are confusing me. I thought it does compare the full version number.
How would you expect it to work?

I must have misunderstood. The problem I'm having is that the version has not changed and yet Starter is telling me to download it again, and it does this constantly. Where are the logs again?

You can find the logs in $HOME/.Oolite/Logs
