We're looking for the name of a guy.

He thought he had invented a time machine ... but what he thought to be a pre-historic jungle, was really a botanic garden.

a demonstration of his machine gave the chicken/egg question a completely new meaning.

Well this had a very Pratchett smell about it so I googled to see what I could find. Is it Johnny and the Bomb by Mr T Pratchett?

the guy's story is a short sideline in the novel, but his invention is central to the plot.

Is this a Heinlein tale?

Hmm...

If i start to answer questions like that, wouldn't that lead to a completely different trivia game?

I'll make you a deal old man: if you attempt to solve the riddle with the name a "yes" to your question would lead to, i'll tell you if it's right or wrong....

Same here ... my searches often end up pointing back to this thread. Moar clues! And non-self-referential ones, for preference!

This thread was fun. Can I reanimate it?
Is this necro-posting? :D

Guess this (very easy): The story starts with a bank robbery in a MMORPG.

See the first few pages for the rules, such as they are..
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied
