twthomas looks OK, he's just posted and been welcomed (by me!).

Might one point out that discussing "possible" spammers on this public thread might not be the most conducive to our desired friendly reputation?
If I joined here and then saw posts questioning if I was a spambot, I might be somewhat offended.
It is possible on these boards to have hidden forums that are only visible and accessible to certain categories of user. If such discussions are to be had, such a forum might be a better place to host those and have this thread go back to being a route for people to report genuine spam (although that is somewhat redundant now with the report button and the first post approvals anyway...

I agree with you there, Thargoid.

There's also a problem - while the Spam Assassins could have access to a hidden thread for discussing spammers - then the many eyes principal breaks down - CheeseR only became a Spam Assassin because as a normal board member he showed he had the keen eye and willingness to keep the boards clean.
I'd rather have the forum open and send the occasional apologetic PM to members who are initially tagged but turn out to be bone fida members.

With the board hacks for 1st post approval and the warning button, many eyes shouldn't be needed.
And if they are, then a simple PM alerting you lot is always available (although the warning button even makes that redundant). Indeed with the hacks the whole point of this thread is arguably irrelevant. With the borders thus patrolled the general user base never needs to see any of the spam payload unless you guys slip up.

We could hide a subforum from newly registered users, i.e. people without an approved post, but I don’t like the idea of adding a subforum just for this thread.
