Which figure of religious significance had a shopping list which read "Pound pastrami, can kraut, six bagels"?

The shopping list was discovered by a novice monk, along with potentially more useful items such as letters, blueprints, and other relics.

Still no-one? The book is in three parts, chronicling the work of a monastery over several hundred years to recover lost technology, and the figure's name appears in the book's title. One of the items in the above list of relics is more significant than the others.
