But it spent 5 minutes on, I'm afraid:

Question for those with katanas: When a bot actually has enough time to drop its load of crap, is it preferable to use the new, fancy 'Report this post' button, or just link here as per old style? Or both?

I hope we can do both as it adds a bit of friendly competition to see who can spot em first.
In so doing keeping us sharp and spam free.

I’m sure that an admin will correct me if I’m wrong, but I think the ‘report this post’ button is more for the reporting of ‘offensive’ or otherwise unacceptable comment by an existing member, rather than for reporting the dropped load of a spammer.
If it’s a spammer, just linking to it in this thread should suffice… we assassins are usually on the ball... ever vigilant.

True, but the report allows the reporter to say why they've made the report so "spam alert" will be sufficient for us to get the message, or as EV says - a link to the thread - which is also why Ahruman says don't reply to obvious spams, because when we delete a user we have the option to delete their posts too - which will take out replies as well.

In my slightly uncertain opinion, that would be a good thing.

I dislike deleting non-spam posts for any reason. In the past, I’ve dealt with this situation by deleting the original spam post, editing out any quoted spam text, and locking the thread. It’s not like it happens often.

And I did this (coincidentally) just a few days ago. Spooky!
